First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
First day impression was good, the very first day, you have to fill up the register kept at the office and complete some other formalities to mark the beginning date of your internship. You should make sure you contact someone beforehand to know what is the agenda for the day at PUCL, which you can access easily from the PUCL interns i.e. the link for which will be sent to you as part of the instructions when you accept your selection for internship and you can contact to PUCL office too.
You have to work from Day 1 itself, which will be detailed by the student coordinator.
You should make sure you do not get late as you are being reported for the same.
Our main task was to conduct a survey in the police stations of Jaipur. Jaipur. we went to jhotwara police station that was almost properly maintained. Rajasthan govt. has instructed all the Thanas to maintain a special desk for females, known as “Mahila Desk” since 2003. Not a single Thana in the whole Jaipur has properly maintained it. The report was submitted by us in December itself.
We also surveyed night-shelters provided by the govt. for the homeless people. Out of the 2 night-shelters I surveyed, 1 was good enough while the other was in a worse condition, no good food, dirty water, etc.
We surveyed different universities too for a committee that is ICC( internal complain committee) that is must for every workplace mainly where women are working but the condition was very poor the members even did not heard about this committee but we gave them full information about it and they promised us that they will create this committee in their organization.
I can say that overall experience with PUCL was much better than I expected, but after taking the glimpses of such govt. organizations, I realized the reason of ‘why India is not really progressing’. I really enjoyed work with PUCL and learned a lot.
Work environment and people
Work environment was very positive & encouraging. Its full of positive thoughts & energy.People around are very helpful & motivating. There was quite friendly environment among internee that came from different universities.
Best thing was work with Kavita ma’am, she is into huge networking and she was very punctual & don’t entertain laziness. Other best thing was quality & quantity of work and most important was drafting of all the research work done and the enriching experience of working with some brilliant minds.
I have learned a lot of things like making reports, doing survey, reports making, etc., learned more about Team work, Co-operation & managing things according to situations. In night survey, I have seen that how people are facing worst situations, no one is there for their help and government is doing nothing.
I did not stay in PG because I belong to Jaipur itself but you can easily find PGs near PUCL office.
Generally it is 6 days a week, but sometimes they call on Sunday too for any specific purpose like dharnas or rally. Timings range from anytime between 9 am to 9 pm which sometimes get extended.
