Application Process with contact details

I applied for this organisation by filling up a form given by them and after that I was asked to meet the chairperson of Human rights commission and within a gap of 1 week I got a confirmation from them.

Duration of internship and timings

May 18, 2015- June 7, 2015

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

First day all the interns were asked to give their introduction and later on the court proceedings started. All the matters were dealt by the chairperson and the depositions were written by the stenographer sitting next to him.

The chairperson was very professional in his approach towards each and every case. He used to take the detailed analysis of the case and scrutinized it in every possible way to furnish justice to the victim.

We were surprised to the kind of patience that he showed towards the victim who came up with variety of issues.

There was a superintendent of Police who was asked to investigate on all the matters where justice has not been rendered to the victim who has approached him.

Main tasks

The main task that we had to do was to analyse each and every case that came up to him, basically that gave us a very practical approach and gave us a chance to have a wider perspective.

He used to refer important sections of IPC, Crpc and Evidence Act. Debating on certain important matters in the court room amongst the interns were also promoted by him.

To suffice it all the most important thing that helped us was witnessing the actual court room proceeding with the real life victims, seeing their pain and agony we definitely felt that we were a part of that case and wanted to help them in some or the other way.

In fact we did help an old beggar by donating him some amount of money which was later on published by the local newspaper of odisha “samaj”.

Work environment and people

The work environment was very formal. We all interns interacted with each other on a daily basis which helped us develop as an individual.

Group works were also given to us where a group of people were asked to present a report on a particular case.

All the interns were very comfortable and friendly with each other. The staff people were also very helpful and moreover the Chairperson was also very kind and generous towards us.

Best things

No doubt the best thing was getting a chance to witness the real life victims and to actually understand what they were going through.

It had a huge impact on us, we were becoming aware of what our society is and how cruel it can be at times.

All of us at some point or other questioned ourselves that is democracy actually prevailing in our country.

The arbitrariness of the police officers towards the poor, the power of privilged towards the underprivileged, the game of politics everything was visible very clearly. I would say that we opened our eyes for the first time towards what was happening around.

Bad things

Let us just say that I liked this internship to an extent where I cannot even point out a single flaw in it.

No stipend

Biggest Lessons

The biggest lesson was to never believe someone in the first instance.

There were many cases where the victims used to cry and wail out in front of the whole court but later on when the investigation was done it used to reveal that the victim itself was at fault.

Most of them used to tamper with the evidences and also used to frame false stories to gain compensation.

So yeah, we learnt not to judge someone just by the spoken words but to also collect enough information about that person and then come to a conclusion.

I stayed at my own house.

Office Timings

The official timings were from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The timings were very strict.

The chairperson never entertained indiscipline.
