Name of the intern

Ahmad Ibrahim

Duration of the internship

4 weeks

How big was the office?

The office has been recently set up, so it’s presently running a residential building.

It was a large 3 BHK flat in GK-1, M-Block, Delhi.

Team strength

3 Partners, 6 Associates, 2 office clerks. Also, an integral part of the firm is Alpha, a black Labrador who is always in the office and ready to play.

Application procedure. Internship contact details

I came to know about the chamber from my uncle. The partners were earlier partners in Cyril Amarchand before setting up their chamber in 2016. Fortunately, I was the first intern.

Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings

10 am to 7-7:30 pm, though there are no strict rules to stay in the office once you have completed the work assigned.

Sometimes I had to stay late, but never after 9. Only Sundays were holidays.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

Stayed at my uncle’s place.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

I easily reached the office as it is on the rear side of the M- Block marker, GK 1. At the gate, I met the managing associate of the firm who led me inside.

I was introduced to Mr. Neeraj Sharma and Mr. Alok Tiwari, partners and the associates who were present in the office, others were in court.

Soon, I was asked if I wished to accompany Mr. Neeraj Sharma to the Delhi High Court for a matter, which I did.

Later, when I came back to the office, I met all the other people in the firm. Everyone was really friendly and asked me to call them by their first name.

Main tasks

The main research areas included Contract Act, CPC, CrPC, Arbitration and Conciliation Act, Companies Act, other act such as Legal Metrology and Registration Act.

Apart from the research works, I drafted an SLP regarding Legal Metrology issue, a reply to writ regarding Registration Act, events and dates for different matters and a notice to invoke Arbitration.

Work environment, people

The environment was totally different from what I have ever witnessed. The environment of the office was chilled out but the people are motivated, ambitious and confident.

Punctuality and perfection was what I noticed among the people in the office. The partners were the real source of inspiration. I am still in awe of them. They are such big shots yet so humble.

Best things

NSA Chambers is unique. It has good points of both, the chamber practice and a litigation firm, yet no negative aspects of both.

The quality of cases and work available is excellent. There was not a single day when I didn’t have any work.

Also, the research work given was not any random propositions but the person assigning the work explained the point they were looking for and a brief introduction of the case was also given.

This not only made the generally monotonous research work easier, but I felt a lot more involved.

Bad things

I couldn’t point out a single bad thing about my internship. Still, I could say that there was no presentation or assessment of my internship on the last day. (which is fine)

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

The atmosphere of the office was too chilled out. The associates and even the partners were really approachable. I was the only intern, yet I never felt like being alone. I went out whenever I wanted for grabbing a smoke.

Sometimes I went with the associates to nearby eateries. The associates treated me extremely well.

Stipend

There is no concept of any formal stipend, but the associates gave me a performance based stipend, a sumptuous meal on the last day of the internship. Not to forget, the Saturday meals with all the office staff to some fancy restaurant.

Biggest lessons

One should definitely intern in a corporate firm to understand why one should be inclined towards litigation. I got clarity in life that I am going to pursue litigation.
