Name of Organisation, Location city, Team Strength

National Commission for protection of Child Rights, New Delhi. We were 6 students. I don’t know about the exact strength of the organisation.

Application Process with contact details

We applied through the college placement cell.

Duration of internship and timings

21 Days. (3 weeks)

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

On the first day we went to the main office situated in Janpath, New Delhi. We were then introduced to the RTE In charge, Ms. Shaista Khan who divided our group as 4 and 2, as we were 6 students. I and one of my friend were asked to work for the RTE (Right to Education) division under Mr. Rajnikanth who was a Senior Technical Expert and 4 of our other team mates were asked to work in the main office itself under one Technical Expert.

After we moved to the RTE division which situated in the Tostoy Lane, its a 2 minutes walk from the main office. We were given few files to read regarding the issues faced by the children related to education across the country.

The timings were 9:30 AM- 5:00 PM. Intially the timings were strict but eventually it got flexible. The office acquires half of the fifth floor of Chanderlok Building, 36 Janpath whereas The RTE Division has the 2nd floor of Mohandas building, Tolstoy road, New Delhi as its office.

There were few first day formalities. I representing my other team mates went to the training in charge. We were asked to submit an application mentioning the name of the college and the duration of the internship we were seeking for, letter of recommendation provided by the college and a passport sized photograph.

The infrastructure of the main office is really good. Compared to the main office the RTE division was that good but it was considerable enough.

Main tasks

We were entrusted with the work of preparing a summary of the cases we were given by our dealing officer and then draft it all on the excel sheets on the format provided to us on the very first day. We were given files of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand etc and also a deadline was given to complete the given number of files.

Our dealing officer, Rajnikanth sir was lax towards us but we also had to report to the RTE In charge and the Director about the status of our tasks so we had to buck up and complete the assigned work. If any help was needed there were junior experts who helped us.

Work environment and people

I worked in the RTE Division where 3 Senior Technical Experts along with few Junior experts and few more staffs worked. All the staffs were very helpful and friendly.

We have had Lunch time at 1 pm when every body use to have their lunch together. They also asked us to join and offered their eatables. The lunch time was the Fun time for all.

Best things

The staffs were very helpful and friendly. After the completion of our works we were allowed to move back home.

In just 2 minutes walk from office is Cannaught Place where one can chill having delicious bites from Mc Donalds or sip coffee from Starbucks. Also there is the very famous market that girls would love to explore. We also use to have check rounds of the market often after office hours.

Bad things

Some times we use to get a lot of files which were very difficult to summarize till the given deadline and also working on excel sheets continuously for hours was boring. The main task given to us wasn’t useful and productive enough to spend out 21 days on.

No, It was an unpaid Internship.

Biggest Lessons

If one wants to gain experience working in a commission then can apply for NCPCR. It is one of the most efficient Commission in the country. I personally recommend that one must gain experience by working in such organizations in the initial years of Law school.

Any Other Thing

The office can be reached by metro having the nearest station- Rajiv Chowk. It is just a 5 minute walk from there.

I had my relatives, so I did not face any problem regarding accommodation. 2 of my team mates stayed in PG in Lajpat Nagar area from where they use to come by city bus.
