Internship @ National Commission for Women, New Delhi : Writing To Embassies & High Commissions, No Stipend

National Commission for Women, New Delhi. About ten departments were there and there was a department head working under the Coordinator and President Ms. Mamta Sharma.

Under every department, several interns were assigned work. I was under the NRI Cell.

Application Process

You have to simply send your CV and cover letter application on the email id provided on the website HERE.

They usually reply within a couple of days and if not, you can follow up. A list of confirmed interns is issued, confirming which department you have to work with.

Duration of internship and timings

Duration is usually one month. Timings differ for every department, usually it is from 10:30 am till 5:30 pm.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

First day formalities include filing the attendance and marking yourself present. Don’t forget to carry a copy of the confirmation e-mail. Infrastructure is basic, it looks like any other government office.

Main tasks

My Cell involved cases with the NRIs only. I was made to write letters and address the High Commissions and Embassies about the grievances of the victims.

Besides, interviewing the victims and being part of the hearings was also required at times.

Work environment and people

Work environment is okay, they are not strict.

You get to meet victims and hear their stories.

Monotonous work.
