Name of the Company
Little and Company, Advocates and Solicitors, Fort, Mumbai.
I interned for a period of two months. October, November until first week of December.
Although I got in through a reference, one could mail Ms. Rajni Divkar the partner in charge of recruitment. Her email ID is mentioned on the official website of the firm.
The firm is a magnanimous one and is located bang opposite the Bombay High Court. The receptionist was kind and I was asked to wait till the partner I was supposed to meet arrived. Within half an hour I was ushered in by the Superior Attendant who showed me around the place.
The work at Little and Company will be provided to you based on your performance in the first week. I was given a bag of mixed work which included drafting as well as printing and making bills for the partners.
The partners along with associates and articles will give you work though it is utmost important that one goes and asks for work.
There is no hierarchy among interns. The best man(or woman) wins, irrespective of their year. Being in the first year I was given substantial work. Expect a lot of court visits; the high court as well as city civil court.
There is a plethora of matters of the company and I had to go to court with my associate everyday.
Places around to chill
There are amazing restaurants near Flora Fountain. Kitaabkhaana to Fountain Restaurant to even the City Civil Court canteen(though restricted only to lawyers, you can manage to sneak in if you have a matter listed before lunch).
There is a separate area for interns and you can always find work flowing in. There maybe a couple of days where one is without any work.
You can help yourself to innumerable cups of coffee or tea from the pantry.
Associates are very helpful and friendly more so because there’s a lot of young crowd.
Timings aren’t fixed. You have to stay back as long as the associate giving you work doesn’t leave. There is no remuneration but the experience in itself is enriching.
Word of Advice
To get the best out of this internship, it would be advisable to intern between November-January when the courts are functioning. During vacations, there won’t be a lot to gain from this place since courts would be shut.
