First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
First day , I was asked to report at 9 ; the firm opened at 9:30 ( test of patience as they told ; it was more so with an intention of making us realize that there shall be a lot of waiting and that a lot of patience is required in dealing with matters)
An introduction to all the members; We were a group of 3 interns. All of us were shown the library collections and given the job of being familiar with the current of matters being handled by the firm at the State High Court. We were also given an intern room with a mini library exclusively for us.
The day went by quickly.
Infrastructure: Main office is located in the first floor while the juniors and the interns of the firm are seated in the ground floor.
The firm mostly deals in labor laws .
– To read 2 recent judgments in the field and to prepare case summaries.
– To prepare briefs on all pending matters of the firm.
– Research work -> as required by the seniors
– Drafting notices
– Typing for the senior advocates
– Extracting and finding relevant cases and parts of requisite judgments.
Work environment and people
A serene work environment facilitating better efficiency that aids in producing quality work. Time lines are given for submission of work in advance and the expectations are laid out in clarity. All the members are always willing to impart knowledge and their experiences. All amicable people who shall always help and answer questions or doubts if one has any.
Best things –
Visits to the High Court
An opportunity to work on a mock petition ( an exclusive initiative to train the interns)
No bad things.
Biggest Lessons –
Patience is the key to most of the procedures in litigation
Being a native Bengalurian , didn’t find a necessity to stay in a PG ; but there are plenty of them in and around the vicinity of the firm and hence , finding an accommodation shouldn’t be a problem.
Timings were generally from 9:30 am in the morning up until 4-5 pm in the evening ; timings were fairly flexible and one could stay back till the time they intended to and complete their task and leave.
