Jharkhand State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Ranchi
Duration of the Internship
8th June – 5th July
How big was the office? Team strength?
A two storey building which includes both State Commission (1 st Floor) and District Forum (Ground Floor). A team of 7 office staffs, President, 2 members, A Secretary works efficiently. Experienced and humble employees have helped me throughout my internship from giving me separate room to read judgements to daily evening tea.
Application procedure. Internship contact details
Recommendation letter from college is must to get an internship under the commission. I submitted my CV, cover letter and recommendation form to the registrar which confirmed my internship then and there without any delay. Emails might not get responded.
5 days in a week. From 10 am till 3 pm. No work on weekends.
Accommodation: how, where, how was it?
It was hardly 6 kilometres from my residence in Ranchi so I stayed at home and used to commute to the workplace by means of public transports.
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
As soon as you enter the place you can understand the seriousness of The Jharkhand State Consumer Redressal Commission. Very quiet environment and everyone was busy with their work. There was no hard and fast rules.
I was asked to witness the daily proceedings and judgements which were given to me to read and understand. I read various petitions like complain petition, revision petition, demand petition, limitation petition and condonation of delay petition of various cases.
I also went through F.I.Rs, bills, receipts of hospitals and insurance companies, vakalatnamas and affidavits. They used to discuss cases with me if I face any problem in reading the judgements. I got to listen to many experienced advocates too. One of them said “ADVOCACY IS AN ART, GIRL”.
Work environment, people
Very humble, knowledgeable and experienced staff. They never treated me like inferior but as one of them. They shared all the work problems and case issues with me. They taught me how CONFONET works. They gave me access to record room which was filled with judgements.
It used to rain almost every day while I was interning. I was served “SARKARI DAFTER WALI SPECIAL CHAI” (according to them) which was of course unexpected and new to me. Secondly, No work load at all. If you have studied CPA then it is easy to understand the procedure. Just work for 5 hours at office and then you are free.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues
Just nearby I used to go to have yummy momos at Nepal House which is at a walking distance from office. Most of the time it was raining so I hardly went somewhere. For half of my internship I had no co-intern.
