Name of Organisation, City?
J Sagar Associates , Mumbai
Duration of internship?
How big was the office? Team Strength?
JSA’s office was very huge it had three floors but this led to a drawback as there were around 30 students interning there.
Application Procedure? Internship contact details?
I applied using a contact, however, you can call up the office and get details from the HR Department.
Timings? Number of working days per week?
We were supposed to report at 9:30, 5 days a week
First Impression? First day? Formalities?
On our first day me and my fellow interns were briefed about the rules and regulation of J Sagar Associates.
We were made to sign an undertaking of not to disclose any of the firm’s confidential information after that we were given our intern kit.
We all were given IDs, which could be exclusively accessed by us for being in touch with the associates of the firm for the work they had given.
My work was mainly research based, which I liked as it enlightens us more as opposed to due diligence.
I assisted the associates in reviewing service agreements and did research on points of law, which was required to assist the clients.
Work Environment? People?
JSA’s work environment is very conducive for a starter, the associates are very friendly and the quality of work given was also good. Some of the work given helped me trace the broad contours of law.
Unlike many firms there was no one intern favoured over the other by the associates, only way interns could make them more favourable was by their work, no personal bias.
The best thing about the firm is that the associates are very friendly and helpful they make sure that it is a learning experience for the intern.
The library of the firm is just massive it contains each and every book that an intern can think of. The interns get access to Manupatra and Westlaw, which is very helpful.
It is the ideal place to intern at if the individual is interning at a law firm for the first time.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns?
The office was situated at fort, hence there were just too many restaurants to eat at. Sometimes we use to order food in the office itself using the Sodexho vouchers that were given to us on the first day.
For short breaks we had the pantry where one could make tea or coffee or anything else to re energise and go back to work.
One should never shy away from hard work, since there were too many interns so, many of them were jobless. The interns who gained the trust of the associates were the ones who had worked as per their requirement.
Being punctual has its own reward, completing the work on time helps the intern to stand out of others. This makes having the habit of research very important i.e. what exactly you should look for.
Disclaimer: Internship experiences are opinions shared by individual law students and tend to be personal and subjective in nature. The internship experiences shared on Lawctopus are NOT Lawctopus official views on the internship.
