First impression, First day formalities, Infrastructure

On my first day I arrived at 9:30 am and was asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement which I did. Subsequent to this, I was given a short briefing about the working hours, in-house practices and methodology.

After this briefing, I was given a case to read, understand and make notes.

The office is strict about the timings and expects the interns to be on time.

My first impression of the place was that an intern is welcomed and is made comfortable.

The office is centrally located in the heart of the city. The office is good enough for a team of 10 associates. The office is headed by two senior associates Mr. Ashok Ram Kumar and Mr. Vijay Kumar.

Each intern is provided with a separate desk and has to bring their own laptop.

The office has an extensive collection of books, journals, digests pertaining to IPR, cyber laws, amongst other books relating to CPC, CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act, Contract Act etc. The office team is extremely supportive and friendly with the interns and assigns specific work pertaining to the current cases being handled by the firm.

Main Tasks

The firm is into all sorts of IPR work which includes litigation, IP Audit, IP Management, IP Monetization & IP filings and training. I mainly got to work on cases related to Trademark, copyright, design and patent infringement and included:

1. Reading and analyzing cases.

2. Court visits

3. Drafting of legal notices, plaints, written statements, Chief Affidavits, interim applications, memos

4. IP Audit work

5. IP filing

Additionally I was asked to research for case laws relating to a legal proposition. There was a lot of learning here. The Senior Associates would teach the interns like professor at times.

My senior used to tell me about court etiquettes, representation etiquettes, and process of reading the case bundle and preparation of notes in conjunction with case laws and finally the mode of presentation.

Work environment, People

As I said, all the amenities were provided in the office. The environment encouraged us to learn more since I had complete access to the
books and the case files. People were also very kind and helpful in the office.
