Name, College, Year of Study : Rupam Gupta, M.S.Ramaiah college of Law, Bangalore, 4th year
Name of the organization, City: Fox Mandal, Kolkata.
How big was the office? Team strength? 3 Sr. Partners coordinating each department with subordinate associates appointed to them.
Application procedure. Internship contact details : I contacted Ms.Swati Agarwal personally and through emails, as at the time of my internship she was in charge of recruiting interns. It is better and much more effective to apply in person, as they do not really respond to e-mails unless you know the Contact Person.
Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings : 2 weeks, 6 days a week, 9.30 AM to 7.30 PM
Accommodation: I stayed at home, Kolkata being my hometown, but there are several PG houses available at reasonable rates nearby. Transportation is awesome in Kolkata, the metro service practically connects the entire city together.
First impression : I was asked to wait at the reception for some time, met the Sr. Partner Mr.A.K.Mandal, he appointed me under his associate Mr.Arunav Sarkar, some staff members directed me to my cubicle, was given a briefing about how the firm functions, after some wait, was given work.
Main tasks (in detail): I was directed to get my own laptop as all work done are forwarded through emails. Several research work in relation to The Banking Regulation Act,1949, the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, The Civil Procedure Code, 1908, The Companies Act,1956. – drafting of legal documents and List of Dates.
Was asked to be present during few client meetings.
Was also directed to visit the Calcutta High court.
Work environment, people : Work environment at Fox Mandal, Kolkata was good, we got separate cubicles; the library was very informative; the seniors were helpful; sometimes it was hard to get work and sometimes we were over-burdened with work.
Best things : This being my first internship in a top tier firm, I learnt a lot about the functioning of a top tier firm and the mechanism in which work is conducted in this kind of an environment.
Work was always given to me in a very official manner and thus, a lesson in mutual respect between the associates and the interns was effectively learnt.
Bad things : 2 weeks was not enough to call this an internship experience however, the firm was not at all willing to give any of the interns more than 2 weeks of internship.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues : The office being placed near the High court area, it was always crowded and there was always a lot of humdrum.
There were food stalls everywhere, lunch was never a problem, and we were even allowed to take chai/ snack breaks in between working hours for sometime.
Stipend/ month : 1500 / 2 weeks
