Duration of the internship
1st July, 2016- 27th July, 2016
How big was the office? Team strength?
The office is pretty big and air conditioned. There were around fifteen people including the administration staff, headed by two partners. Interns were provided with separate computers to work in.
Application procedure. Internship contact details
You can directly send an email to samundeeswari.k@universal-legal.com (administration and accounts). I received a reply within a week. They take only two to three interns a month, so it is better to apply at least two months prior.
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
On the first day all the associates greeted the interns. Apart from the general introductions, interns got work on the first day. As far as first impressions go, the firm is professional. They even give you your own pen stand and notebook.
Main tasks
Interns were provided with a lot of research (RBI and SEBI Regulations) and drafting work. The firm mainly deals with corporate law related work, but it also specializes in IPR and Litigation etc., so interns even got research work in the other fields of law.
Interns were asked to proof read and review agreements, make comparative tables of different laws. I also assisted in compiling information for due diligence reports.
Work environment, people
As I mentioned before, the firm is professional. Timings are a bit strict, but you can always request them if you want to leave early. Saturdays are off. You are given work most of the time, but you can always ask for work too.
The people are friendly and approachable; the junior associates are especially easy to talk to. You can ask the associates to clarify your doubts and they patiently wait for you to finish your work without adding pressure. They also invite you to sit with them for lunch. Tea/ coffee are offered twice a day and sometimes snacks too.
Best things
The best part of this internship was that the work here is good and you can learn the practical aspects which is literally the point of the internship. This firm gives you a very detailed certificate of your internship, promptly, as soon as your internship is completed.
Bad things
Some few countable days there was no work, but all in all, there isn’t anything bad about the internship.
What did you do to chill?
The firm is situated in Nungambakkam, Chennai which is the commercial hub of the city. There are eateries, restaurants, commercial buildings.
Stipend/ month
I received a stipend of Rs. 3000.
