How Did you Apply for the Internship?

I applied through their email ID which is I received a call from Mr. Kapil, who is a senior associate for an interview at their office. They asked me about my travel and timing convenience and told me that it will be an unpaid internship as they already have a lot of interns onboard.

However unsatisfied, I agreed for the no stipend because the environment of the office seemed professional (everyone was wearing formals) so I gathered that I could learn a lot there.

First Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

I was asked to come to the office at 10 AM and contact Mr. Kapil for the orientation. He introduced me to the other senior and junior associates who were very friendly and made me feel comfortable that I could approach them for any advice. Once the formalities were done with, I was given a task to make a summary document of an ongoing divorce case. The office has designated spaces, desks for the interns as well as the associates.

However, over the period of time, I saw them taking on a lot of unpaid interns and because there was no place for them to sit, they were asked to sit on a make shift dining table and work.

My first impression of the place was that the infrastructure is good but the work given and the environment was very unsatisfactory. The employees didn’t seem to have a good relationship with each other or the seniors and employer, Mr. Karan Thukral. Mr. Karan Thukral didn’t come to the office much and we had no interaction with him throughout the one month internship.

Main Tasks

The main tasks given consisted of a lot of legal research and legal drafting. It was great to be given the responsibility to do these two things. Since I am also a content creator, we used to record videos in the office to be uploaded on the firm’s website and Youtube Channel. It was a great way to feel a part of the organization. I learnt a lot while working there.

Work Environment

This is something that I struggled with in the office. Starting from the beginning, the environment was fairly friendly however, over time I could feel the animosity increase between people. I used to hear conversation amongst employees about how the employer didn’t treat them well, didn’t pay on time or paid at all and about the general dissatisfaction with the work environment.

There was no receptionist in the office because of which some of the senior associates (female) had to attend to clients. It seemed like the female associates were given work outside of their scope because the office didn’t want to hire a receptionist. In addition to this, female associates rarely got the opportunity to step out of the office and were only made to draft the documents for cases, which were later represented by male associates.

I had heard clients coming to the office in tears because the firm had taken money from them and not filed their case because of which they lost all of their wealth. Overall, working here showed me what an ugly side this legal industry has. The work environment is something to beware of.

Good Things

The good thing was the camaraderie between the associates and the interns. I have learnt a lot from the associates and formed long term friendships/support systems with them.

Bad Things

The office is in a packed society so there will be no parking space to park your car. And as mentioned, the work environment is not satisfactory.

Stipend (If Any)

NA. They usually keep unpaid interns.

Details about Accommodation and Commute

I am a resident of Delhi and it was very easy to commute to the office located in Paschim Vihar.

Anything Else?

I learnt that at the end of the day what matters in the internship is to create a good network with other law students and your seniors and to learn how the legal industry functions.
