Internship Experience @ Rajkotia Associates, New Delhi: Do not shy away from work

Your Name, College, Year of Study

Kaushik Thanugonda, National Law University Delhi

Name of Organisation, Location city, Team Strength

Rajkotia Associates, New Delhi

Application Process with contact details

I applied by sending a mail to ma’am herself ([email protected]) with a statement about why I wished to intern with the office, as well as my CV.

You might need to send a reminder, but the reply usually comes within 1-2 weeks, and it is advisable to apply in advance.

Duration of internship and timings

July 11, 2016 – August 5, 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The office itself is very aesthetically pleasing, tastefully decorated and quaint, with Wi-Fi facilities, a mini library and AC as well. There is enough place to sit and work in peace.

On the first day, you are expected to arrive early and talk to Malavika ma’am, who’ll then introduce you to the associates, from whom you can take work for the day. Both ma’am and the associates are exceptionally warm and helpful to interns.

Main tasks

My work mostly involved research and drafting – since it is a family and civil law practice, most of the work is of that nature. I got to work on both family law matters such as divorce and PWDVA, as well as civil matters relating to succession and contracts.

Drafting work involved reply petitions, wills, affidavits and a leave and license agreement.

Besides, court visits to Patiala House, Saket District Court and Delhi High Court enabled me to get a better understanding of the court proceedings and how lawyers argue their cases.

Work environment and people

The work environment is quite relaxed, and you’ll sometimes have to insist on asking for work so as to get good stuff to work on. The office is amazing, and the people are very warm and helpful.

The associates are extremely chilled out, and will help you understand your mistakes and even teach you how to do things, if you’ve never done them before. We used to chill with the associates during lunch, and they were very cordial to us.

I had 5 co-interns from different colleges in Delhi, and they were very helpful and friendly as well.

Best things

The best things were the comfortable but quality workload, and that I got to learn a lot of practical things that go into a litigation practice. The facilities were amazing, and the people extremely friendly and helpful.

Bad things

The only drawback for me was the distance and time for travelling. Nothing else.

No stipend.

Biggest Lessons

Biggest lesson was to be confident and assertive, otherwise you will not be taken seriously.

Be eager to learn, and do not shy away from work, only then will you gain the full benefit of an internship.

Overall Rating

Address: N-8, 2nd Floor, Green Park Main, New Delhi – 110016.

The office itself is slightly difficult to locate, but there is an easy way to approach it. First, exit the Green Park Metro from gate 4, and take an auto to Dunkin Donuts at Green Park, in front of which there is an overhead tank. The street to the second left of the overhead tank will lead you to the office.

I traveled there from my college hostel itself by metro, although good PGs are available at Saket, two metro stations away from the office.

Office Timings

The timings of the office are quite relaxed for interns, although expected timings are 10:00 AM – 6:30PM. You can leave early depending on the workload for the day.

You might have to leave early if there is a court visit scheduled, and you’ll be intimated about the same.
