Internship Experience @ People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Jaipur: PUCL is like a family

Your Name, College, Year of Study

Priya Bairagi, University Five Year Law College, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, 2nd Year

Application Process with contact details

I came to know about PUCL through one of my friend who was an ex intern there. Also, one can apply for the internship here by sending a CV along with the cover letter to [email protected] .

Duration of internship and timings

June 26, 2016 – July 29, 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The very first day when I reached PUCL Office I met Kavita Ma’am, she asked me to write an application regarding interning there.

Though the Office is not very big but it does not matter as most of the work is done outside office.

When I joined, that time drought survey was going on, so ma’am sent me with the group who was surveying in the “Bassi” district of Jaipur.

Main tasks

At PUCL I got a chance to learn many things while doing “drought survey”, “menstruation survey” and also “pension survey”.

Also since most of us were law students so we also visited District Court, Session Court, Family court, High court, State Commission, MSSK and MKSS and observed their proceedings.

Work environment and people

The working environment was seriously amazing. Though ma’am is strict regarding the work but at the same time she is very frank. PUCL is like a family.

We need not have any official appointment to discuss anything with Ma’am. We can discuss view on any social issue over a cup of tea also.

Best things

The best thing of PUCL is that you get to explore yourself. Also you meet so many knowledgeable and famous personalities and learn many things from them.

Through PUCL I got a chance to see the real India and got motivation and inspiration to work for it.

Bad things

Journey at PUCL was awesome so no bad memories.

Biggest Lessons

The biggest lesson that I learnt here is that it is very easy to sit in an AC room and discuss over poverty with the cup of coffee in your hand. But it is very difficult to live in that pathetic state of poverty.

So instead of just sitting and discussing the social issues one should initiate taking an action and become the change he wants to see in the country.

Several girls and boys hostels are available in the area at the reasonable rates.

Office Timings

The office timings were not fixed, they were flexible but flexible in the sense that you can only go to home once you have finished the work assigned to you for the day. Normally the timings were 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. but they were not fixed.
