Application Process

The applicant must apply online with their CV, statement of purpose and recommendation letter from the university. They usually respond to the application within two to three weeks. It’s better to apply two to three months before the period of internship due to a large number of applications.

Duration of Internship

The internship is provided for a period of four to six weeks. My internship was from 01st January 2019 to 25th January 2019.

First Day Impression

During the first day, I was asked to report to the Additional Director of the Academy. He interacted with me and told the basics about the academy and the kind of work that I will be allotted in the academy. He was really helpful in clearing any doubt about the working as well as giving his own experiences about the work environment. The office was very well maintained, different from what we see in the typical government academies. I was allotted a computer with internet facilities for the smooth flow of my work.

Main Tasks

The main task in the academy was to prepare the report of different programs relating to training of judges either of High Court or the lower judiciary. When the training gets over, then work related to different researches on various topics are given to the interns. The work varies from making different case briefs to writing articles on latest legal principle and policies.

Work environment and people

The work environment was very nice. The professors and other staff were very helpful. There was no pressure of doing the work in any particular time frame but needs to report to the additional director during the end of the day.

Bad Things

There was no such bad thing here. The academy is far from the city, it sometimes becomes a little difficult to have food since there is no availability of food inside the academy.

Rs. 5000 is paid to the intern.

Biggest Lessons

The Judges’ training is something everyone wants to attend and that too of High Court Judges. This special experience is nowhere available in India. We came to know how the judges are trained to make them capable of delivering justice at all level.

Office Timings

The office timings were from 10:30 a.m. to 05:30 p.m. But one needs to report early during the conference time.

From the notes of experience of Intern I suggest that in future every Intern admitted by NJA shall also be provided with lunch as like other Trainees which is a basic human need and cost may be deducted from his stipend considering the continuation of work in the afternoon.
