Internship Experience @ National Human Rights Commission, Delhi; Research Work, Friendly Atmosphere, Best for First Years

Name of Organisation, Location (city), Team Strength

National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi, 8

Application Process

I sent my internship application on the then concerned email address provided under training section of NHRC official website which was

Duration of internship and timings

I interned in the month of May.

Timings Strict in morning from 10 but flexible in the evening around 5.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

First impression of NHRC was not as per expectations. I expected to huge hues and cry of work, although the work was intense their but not so intense for us.

We were interns more specifically trainee as the NHRC is under obligation to train some number of people every year about roles and responsibilities of organization. We were treated as infants.

Quite oftenly, Mr.Rawat use to order snacks for us and use to brief about all the branches of NHRC.

We were directed to report at 10:30 a.m. to Mr.Rawat on the scheduled dates along with a copy of the college/institute Identity Card and 01 passport size photograph to get an ID card.

Infrastructure was a bit congested though but sufficient in all regards. Library was a gem on leading authors of Law. The best part was tameless internet access which can be used even on extended hours of work.

Main tasks

Our main task was to write a research paper on the assigned topics during our internship tenure.

Further we were delegated to different departments of NHRC.

Firstly we were in research department then we were shifted to Law department where we filed complaints at “MADAD”.Then, we were shifted to investigation division where Sachin sir taught us the truth behind custodial deaths, rapes and fake encounters.

He also shown us a video of a real post mortem to differentiate between real and fake encounter.

In the last we were taken on a visit to Dasna jail where we came across various inmates and facilities given to them.

Work environment and people

Work environment was friendly and people around work not so interactive as most of them were assigned time bound tasks.

Best things

Library access was the best thing apart from free internet.

Bad things

Not much of real legal work. Good for initial years at Law school, not so good for tail enders.

Biggest Lessons

Things might appear to be real but a closer look may reveal the true face.

New techniques of fake encounters of innocent people which are appropriately dealt by this organization.
