Application Process with contact details
I applied for internship with an application addressed to the Registrar of National Green Tribunal along with the recommendation letter issued by my college and Xerox of my college identity card. I submitted my application to the personal assistant of the Registrar. Applications were entertained on first come first serve basis as the intake of number of interns was capped to 60.
Duration of internship and timings
9th August-6th September 2017
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I started my internship right from the next day of submitting the application, the Tribunal is situated at Arera hills , right at the back of district court of Bhopal , the building is overall well-maintained and well equipped.
There is greenery all around the tribunals premises and even inside the premises, the color of building is green as well.
Everyday I was required to mark my presence in attendance register which was available at the reception counter.
Our main task was to attend the court proceedings. There were two court rooms but the proceedings took place only in one court room. The proceedings started at sharp 10:30 A.M.
After attending proceedings I was provided with current case files to read and make notes , along with this I was given access to the books kept in the library to read.
A class was also taken by the advocates who taught us about the existing environmental problems and provisions of NGT Act, 2010.
Interns were also required to purchase and study the provisions of NGT Act,2010 and Environment Protection Act, 1986 . In case of any doubts I was required to discuss it with the advocates.
At the end I was required to submit a research project on the topic allotted by them . the research work was to be done by a group of 3-4 interns collectively. The topic allotted to my group was “MC MEHTA AND DEVELOPMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL JURISPRUDENCE IN INDIA”. To view my project work click here.
This project was to be presented before the Registrar in PowerPoint as well as in spiral bounded hard copy. A viva was also taken.
Work environment and people
The court rooms and library were equipped with air conditioners, the employees were very friendly and cooperative. The advocates were also patient as they answered all our queries.
The proceedings and classes taken by advocates were very informative, the task of making the project helped in increasing my knowledge of environment related landmark judgments and also enhanced my researching ability.
No such bad thing.
No stipend is provided.
The biggest lesson I learnt is that, as compared to other laws the environmental law is developing at a fast pace, because the activities of human beings are continuously deteriorating the environment which is threatening the existence of every life form on earth.
I reside in Bhopal so accommodation wasn’t a problem for me.
