Duration of Internship

The internship is provided for a period of 7 days i.e. 1 week only. I did my Internship from 17th December 2018 – 2nd January 2019(23rd Dec 18 – 1st Jan 19 was court holiday).

First Day Impression

During the first day, we were explained about the process of Mediation and the pros and cons of the Mediation process. We were also told how to maintain the Internship dairy and prepare the final report.

Main Tasks

The main tasks were to sit with the Mediators in the chambers along with both the parties and observe the mediation proceedings and brief it down in a dairy. There were usually two mediators and two to three interns in each chamber. The Mediators were lawyers form the Allahabad High Court itself who were specially trained for the Mediation Process. Each Mediator was specifically assigned a day of the week and they handled 20-25 cases a day.

Work environment and people

The Mediation and Conciliation centre is silent and witnessed no disturbance during the proceedings.

Also, there was no pressure on the parties, interns and the advocates as well.

Working Environment was very friendly.

Bad Things

The only bad thing I found about this place was that the Mediators were only assigned a single day per week so if you liked working under any specific mediator, you cannot work with them again as the internship was only of seven days.

No stipend is given to the interns.

Biggest Lessons

There is a lot of difference between the knowledge we acquire inside the four walls of a classroom and the knowledge we gain outside the classroom.

As a law student, one needs to be well-versed and skilled in practically applying the laws as well as knowing the laws.

Office Timings

The office timings were quite unusual as the mediation proceedings start at 3 on Monday to Friday and on 11 at Saturday.

We were called from 3-5 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday.

Overall Rating

I would like to rate my internship experience at The Allahabad High Court Mediation & Conciliation Center 8/10.
