Duration of Internship
10th Dec’15 – 31st Dec’15
Getting into one of the India’s largest vehicle manufacturing (by production) company, wasn’t an easy catch. One has to mail their CV for their internship to be approved. I had sent a mail attaching my CV in the month of August for getting a winter internship opportunity.
But sadly, it got declined stating the reason of no vacancy for any intern during winters. I rechecked my CV if anything I had left to mention, and thus, I found out that I hadn’t given them the exact dates of my internship.
I resent the rectified mail to them in September for seeking the vacancy within that particular time period. There came a reply in October confirming my internship in the month of December.
I wanted to scream but has to keep a huss as i was in class! 😛
So thus, I have to play the mail game with the HR department of M&M Ltd. for at least 2 months to get into their arena. And this was one of my ecstasy moment! 😀
Life in Mumbai!
As being a Mumbaikar for around 5 years before leaving for my college in Gurgaon, it was pretty easy for me to travel down in locals from Thane to Worli. It used to take me 2 hours from my place to reach office. Indeed a hectic life! But after all, it’s MUMBAI where the spirit never dies!
The office timing at Mahindra and Mahindra used to be from 09.00a.m. till 05.00p.m., though it was flexible. Thus, I have to leave my place at around 7 in morning.
It was really fun to see the morning hassle of corporate people in the local and the time passed away.
Right from changing trains to shared taxis and what all, I ultimately found myself at around 8.55a.m. standing in front of the gates of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(corporate office) which is situated in Mahindra Towers, G M Bhosale marg, Worli, Mumbai (400018).
First Impression lasts long
Entering through gate no. 2 of the office, I was first asked to show my ID card as they were unaware of the fact that I am intern there & it’s my first day. Thus, I have to make an entry there and carry on with the temporary entry card that day.
Then, I was asked to take elevators to 5th Floor where the legal department was situated.
Initially, I was told to wear formals to the office, which I clearly took a note of. I met the senior GM of that department as soon as I entered through the door.
A lanky, yet with a stunning personality welcomed me with a charming smile. She briefed me everything about all the work I will be getting in future days to come.
Further, I was called up by the secretary who introduced me to all the employees working there and also asked to give me projects to work on. Thus, start of 3 week fantastic training!
Mostly, I was been given to cull out the exposure under foreign laws.
But, in my second week of training, I was been given an accident case that had taken place in one of the factories of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. dealing with factory laws. I was expected to make a report of it.
With that, I was also asked to research upon negotiable instruments laws and their recent amendments. Reviewing the MOA of the company was the last job that I was asked to do in order to restart a new business.
I found these 3 weeks enough to work upon almost all the field and get an intense knowledge about everything that I worked upon. It was an amazing experience intoto.
The Christmas Eve
As major chunk of population were christian there, the festival was celebrated so exoctically a week prior to the eve day.Secret santa game was being played everyday for an hour till 25th December.
We had a huge event awaiting for us to be celebrated on that day. It was really fun to play so many mini games that day with delicious food around.
It was pretty cool culture in the office. One will find a very friendly atmosphere there. I hardly took a day to get mingled up with almost all the colleagues in the office.
With flexible rules of dresscode, we could wear semi formals and Indian ethnic to work. Almost all the employees were female there. I found that one of the best part. Call me feminist or racist, anything you desire.
Without missing out on one of the most important point, the food was extremely mouth watering, be it lunch or breakfast and at economical price, though, tiffins were free.
Though I wasn’t paid anything as my training was for less duration, it is usually a good amount for all the interns proposed by the Legal Department head.
One has to work for at least a month to be paid off.
It was in total a great experience working in Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. I would suggest students to apply for internship here as they will get a wide exposure to variety of work here. It is indeed a great internship opportunity I have achieved till now.
