Duration of Internship
The internship is provided for a period of four to six weeks. My internship was from 15th October to 10th November 2018.
First Day Impression
During the first day, I was told to report to the supervisor to whom I was allotted. He interacted with me and told the basics about the ministry and the kind of work that I will be allotted in the ministry. The officer was really helpful in clearing any doubt about the working as well as giving his own experiences about the work environment. The office was very well maintained, different from what we see in the typical government offices.
The main task in the ministry was to look into different files that comes to the ministry for drafting and vetting. The files from different other ministries come for the purpose of drafting in a specific format so as to keep it further in the parliament for the process of making it an act. We have read about how a bill becomes an act of parliament. Here we work to make a piece of paper becomes a Bill. The files needs to be revised twice and thrice before it becomes capable of putting it before the parliament.
Work environment and people
The work environment was very nice. The officers and other staff were very helpful. There was no pressure of doing the work in any particular time frame but one needs to report to the officer at the end of the day if the need or urgency arises.
The people are very busy due to overloaded work. So it’s difficult to get the recognition of your work done.
No stipend is given to the interns.
There is a lot of difference between the knowledge we acquire inside the four walls of a classroom and the knowledge we gain outside the classroom. Certainly, we learn as to how the law comes into force, but working here will give you the very practical experience of the same.
The office timings was from 09:00 a.m. to 05:30 p.m. One needs to be on time since the attendance register requires the intern to write the reporting time on the attendance register as well as the time of leaving.
