Accommodation Commute

I had a relative’s place to stay at, but you can find lots of accommodation around the complex area.

First Day Formalities Initial Impressions

The DLSA office is located in the Court Complex in Amritsar. I was asked to report to the office at sharp 9:30 am so that I can complete the formalities. The office operates in the ADR Center which has a decent infrastructure.

I met the Secretary of DLSA Amritsar Mr. Sumit Makkar, Civil Judge (S.D.), who gave me an introduction of the functions that the DLSA performs, work of ADR Center, Lok Adalats and Court-annexed Mediation, etc.

Main Tasks

The internship at DLSA gave me a wonderful opportunity and great exposure to practically gain legal knowledge. I visited many places like District & Sub-Jail, Lok-Adalat Proceedings including pre-litigation, mediation, Legal Awareness Camps organized by DLSA, etc.

We had new and varied experiences in all respective places and gathered numerous pieces of information. We are all aware of the fact that practical experiences are the best teachers. This Internship gave me that hands-on experience and helped me grow.

All the associates and staffs were very friendly. You can easily interact with each of them. Not only the office associates even the Secretary of DLSA, made me feel so comfortable during my internship and he was very kind and amicable to us.

Office hours are between 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. But you can leave early at times when you go for the field visit.

Good Things

The best thing was that we had a great work environment and helpful associates. They used to teach us a lot when we went for field visits.

Unlike other Internships where interns are put to pressure and associates allot most of their work to the interns, we did not have any such drawbacks. The associates and staff were always there to guide me.

I had a great experience after attending the different courts, conversing with Senior Civil judges and interacting with parties during the mediation and visiting on various sites such as Lok Aadalat, Government Mental Hospitals, Amritsar Central Jail, Mediation Center and the District Court Complex.
The internship was very beneficial in the sense that it gave me practical experience in the field of legal aid and legal services.

Bad Things

I did not find any bad things as such and liked everything.

Basic and practical knowledge is more valuable than a stipend, which I had earned.

Other Info

This internship majorly taught me that always be willing to help the person in need, have empathy towards other human beings and learn as much as you can.
