Duration of internship and timings
31st October 2013 to 30th November 2013. The timings were from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The office is comprised of two floors and is of a good size.
On the first day, I was asked to meet the HR who gave me some general instructions regarding working with the firm.
Thereafter, she introduced me to all the Associates in the Litigation Department, where I was to intern.
I was assigned a desktop and was made to sit along with the Associates (which made me feel like an Associate myself!)
I was mainly assigned research work on various topics.
I also proof read documents and assisted in the drafting of agreements and affidavits.
Work environment and people
Desai & Diwanji was a great place to intern at.
The work environment was formal, but not stressful.
The people were approachable and friendly.
Every task to be performed was well explained and clarifications or doubts, if any, regarding the work were always answered.
Interning at Desai & Diwanji was a great learning experience!
I accompanied the Associates to City Civil Court and High Court.
It was the best feeling to watch Court proceedings live after having seen them on television and in the movies!
I learnt that it is important to take all work seriously and to do all the work assigned diligently and sincerely, be it something basic like looking for a case law or more complicated work, as each time one learns something new which would be beneficial in future.
I also learnt that one should never sit idle and should ask for work when one does not have work as it is only in learning that one can improve and acquire the skills and knowledge to be an exceptional lawyer.
