Internship Experience @ Corporate & Legal, Law Firm, Delhi: Lit and Arb Work

Name of Organisation, Location, Team Strength

Corporate & Legal, Law Firm, Lajpat Nagar 1, New Delhi. 2 partners, 1 associate, 2 clerks, 1 manager.

Application Process

I got it through my college placement cell ‘CDPD’ but one can directly apply to [email protected]

Duration of internship and timings

4 weeks in July, 2014. Timings were from morning 10 to 8 in the evening.

But one can reach half an hour or 45 minutes late to the office unless you have been asked to reach to a Court or have been asked to reach office early for some work.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

On the very first day I was called by the partner and he gave me a brief introduction about the working of the firm, how to deal with the clients and most importantly how to manage the office staff.

After that I was asked to attend a client conference in the office conference room with the partner, but after that there was not much work for the whole day.

Office is in the basement of a residence and office space is decent. Partners have separate office spaces, cubicles for associates and interns and 1 conference room.

Main tasks

The firm has civil matters in High Court of Delhi, District Courts, Arbitration matters and in various tribunals.

Main tasks included drafting legal notices, drafting suits, RTI’s, research, attending court proceedings, arbitration proceedings, tribunal proceedings and the most favourite and boring task of all lawyers, reading case files.

I was not interested much in attending district court proceedings, so I only went for the High Court matters and the arbitration matters.

Rest of my time was spent in office only doing the desk job.

Work environment and people

Partners were pretty chilled out, the associate too and the clerks love talking whenever they find time to.

Best things

Delicious juicy jalebi’s once in a week from a nearby shop ordered by the partner.

Bad things

There were days when there was no work at all and there were also the days when files were falling from my table.

Stipend

No

Any Other Thing

If you want to have a litigation experience, irrespective of what year of college you are in, you can intern at this place and will also have experience over arbitration and tribunal proceedings side by side, but nothing extraordinary.

Good cases, chilled out work environment and decent people.
