Duration of internship and timings
19th May – 14th June 2014, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The First impression was good, the HR department was very well managed, the first day was smooth we were made to fill in forms to get a pass to enter the prohibited area of Plant.
In the first week we were made to submit a demand draft of Rs. 500 drawn in the favor of Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL.
The infrastructure is amazing, this Steel plant is one of the largest in Asia and the most famous also. people from different cities come to this place and do their internship.
The only task you have to do is to prepare a project report on the given topic. From the second week, your internship actually starts, that’s when you are given a Topic by General Manager of the legal department Mr. Ravishankar. He is a really genuine person.
He will give you topic according to your interest , say a topic about which you want to learn more, I wanted to learn more about industrial Disputes Act, I was given a topic from the same and was made to write case analysis of cases of Industrial disputes in either Bhilai Steel plant or any plant of SAIL. Every weekend Sir used to check the progress of our report.
At the end of our internship we were made to present our project and were asked questions about it.
Work environment and people
The work environment was really professional. Our Internship in charge Mrs. Aditi Sathpathy was really strict about the timings and our behavior in the office which is why we all were punctual and dedicated towards our work.
Aditi mam is a very helping person you can go to her and ask any doubt if you have and if she is unable to answer it , she makes sure that somebody else help us out.
The best thing was the people around, legal departments office was small but consisted of amazingly talented people which made us learn a lot many new things while doing research and while writing case analysis.
Also the project some other people were making, were another interesting topics and you get to learn about those topics too.
The only bad thing was the first week which was work less we didn’t do anything productive, we were made to watch the presentations of steel plant and its working and safety measures which in a way was needed for many people who were engineering but for us it wasn’t really needed.
We didn’t even enter the Plant. Our work was in an office outside the actual Plant area.
The biggest lesson I had from this internship was one should never take a PSU internship lightly, they just didn’t give you a project to make a presentation by copying it from internet.
They make sure that you write it all by yourself and prepare a report with actual cases of SAIL, so that you understand the intricacies of the plant.
Any Other Thing
This is one of the best PSU internship and one should really do an internship over here just to learn the intricacies of working in a public sector. There is this really amazing Indian Coffee house you can go and have good south Indian food over there.
