Note: Internship experiences are shared by individual law students and are subjective in nature.

Name. College. Year of Study

Name of the organization. City

Bharucha & Partners, Mumbai

Duration of the internship

4 weeks

How big was the office? Team strength

Office is spread on the whole floor of Cecil Court building. Quite a big place.

14 associates and 2 partners.

Application Procedure

I applied through the form available on their website.

They replied with a link for higher knowledge for further assessment of my application in which I had to answer few questions related to legal problems and then a telephonic group discussion was held.

After 10 days of it I received my confirmation.

Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings

1st June, 2016 – 30th June, 2016.

Timings were 10 AM to 7 PM. But depends if you have to complete the work.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I stayed at “Unique Hostel” it is situated in fort area which is very near by to the office.

The best part is that there are lot of law students there who are staying there for a short term for internship purpose.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

There are lot of interns there some of them are permanent interns working for around an year or so.

So on the first day we were allotted our seats and desk. There is bay for interns but it was packed when I joined so two of us were shifted to an associate’s cabin.

Each of us were provided with a laptop from the IT department as employees are not allowed to use personal laptops in the office.

There was no work on the first day.

Main tasks

There was not much work for interns in this firm. Specifically short term interns.

We were supposed to ask for work from any or all the associates whenever we can but there was hardly any work given to the interns except for a little bit of research work and sometimes arrangements of files, creating list of dates, creating basta list or sticking notes on the important pages of file.

There is hardly any thing I learnt in this one month.

Work environment, people

Work environment is not that good. They hired a lot of interns, more than they need. But there have been days that I have been idle throughout the office hours and asked for work but nothing was given. This is the case for most of the interns with whom I have conversed with.

Best things

Best thing is that you have internet connectivity though some websites like youtube are blocked but you can pass the time. Another thing is that the location of the office is very nice. It is just in front of gateway of India. So you can roam around after office hours.

Bad things

There is not much work given to the interns which is related to law or which will help the student learn something about the working of law firms. They have hired more interns than they need.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

The office is quite near the gateway of India and situated in Colaba which is a great place in South Mumbai.

Stipend/ month

Anything else you’d like to tell

Instead of a big named law firm like this, a law student will learn a lot more while interning under an practicing advocate in any district court or high court.
