Duration of Internship

How you applied?

I got to know Mr Pulkit Agarwal (Managing partner of the firm JP Legal) through my college’s internship cell.

First day formalities, infrastructure and first impression

I was asked to be present at Patiala House Court on the first day as there was a matrimonial matter listed. I met another partner, Advocate Palav Agarwal, there who gave me the case file to go through the case facts so that I understand something in the court.

After that, I was asked to report to the office in Mayur Vihar. The office is 200 meters walking distance from Mayur Vihar Phase 1 metro station.

The office is loaded with a lot of good books on law and having 3 chambers of the main partners of the firm. There are 2 senior associates and 4 associates at the firm apart from 3 partners. The office is spacious with a healthy work environment.

Main tasks

Every day there were matters listed in different judicial and quasi-judicial tribunals/courts of Delhi ranging from the District Court, High Court, Supreme Court, NCLT, NCLAT, DRT etc.

Research on case laws, assisting the lawyers in drafting and observing court proceedings was the main task.

After the court hours were over, the partners used to go for arbitrations or visit corporate clients’ offices for meetings and compliance related work where the interns were also allowed to accompany.

Good things

The environment is really friendly and lively as there are young associates and everyone gels up well.

Bad things

There isn’t any bad thing in the office.

Stipend

They don’t provide you with stipend but the overall experience of learning is worth everything.

Accommodation

PGs are available near the office only.

Anything else to add

All the senior partners were very helpful and interactive. They not only gave us drafting and research work but also helped us with the basics of many law subjects.

We were also provided evening snacks and tea. Interns were also allowed to sit in client meetings and this ensured that interns learnt about what the client wants from a lawyer.

It was very fascinating to see that clients usually neither have many documents nor the budget but expect the lawyer to ensure the best remedy for them.

It was really a good experience to intern with JP Legal and learn a lot from Advocate Pulkit Agarwal and Advocate Palav Agarwal.
