How did you apply?
I mailed my CV to connect[at]jljlawoffices.com and received the confirmation within 5 days. They are very prompt in responding to their mails.
First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression
In the confirmation mail I was instructed to contact Rukban Tyagi sir to confirm my time of reporting. I was asked to report at 10 am on the first day. I reached the office at around 09:45 and had my first interaction with Manish Jain sir (Managing Partner) and Sougata Ganguly sir (Senior Partner). Both of them were really patient in hearing my past experiences as well as my expectations from this internship. Manish sir enquired about my interest area and assigned me my first task accordingly.
The office is well furnished with different chambers for the Partners, separate working area for the Associates and one conference room where the interns are usually accommodated. However, depending upon your task and requirement of interaction with the Associates, interns are allowed to sit in the Associates working area.
Every intern is assigned varying tasks- drafting, research, article writing, ppt preparation, content creation, etc. mostly on the subject matter of the intern’s interest. As a final year student, this internship has been the most fruitful month whereby I got the opportunity to
work on real-time cases. I accompanied Manish sir in client meetings and he guided me at every step. He even took us to the Harvard Global Networking Night (a networking event organised for the Harvard alumni) to ensure that we get full exposure, not just in
the law field, but even outside.
The main tasks assigned to me were primarily drafting and research. Besides that, I was also required to prepare case notes and observe Court proceedings, at times. The subjects varied from Constitution, Insolvency Code, Criminal law to Corporate laws. They
have a variety of options to choose from. Overall, an internship at JLJ Law Offices would not only give you exposure to law and a better understanding of the field and the subject, but it would also give an insight into life.
Manish sir is the locus of energy and positivity in the office. Throughout this internship, he has guided and motivated me in every single aspect for personal as well as professional growth and success. Every evening, Manish sir would himself interact with
all the interns to determine the progress of each of the interns in the assigned tasks. He would provide food for thought and raise some interesting questions to ensure that nobody loses interest in the subject matter.
His account of personal experiences and struggle which he so humbly shares with the interns motivates the listener and provides just the ‘kick’ which we, as students, need. Manish sir and Sougata sir have a different approach and at times, conflicting opinions about things, but the pair provides just the right balance to the office and allows one to think from all perspectives. Frankly speaking, witnessing this duo in action was the highlight of this internship- amusing, astonishing and inspiring. The other associates at the firm are equally humble and helpful and my co-interns were the best of the lot.
The best part about being a part of JLJ, even for a short duration, centres around the fact that Manish sir is a big foodie and therefore, be prepared for surprise foodie delights inside and outside the office. Even after achieving the impossible heights in his career, the partners at JLJ are so down to earth that their humility instils great respect in the onlooker’s heart. This internship has inspired me, trained me, motivated me and have given me life mantras for which I am utterly grateful.
Nothing at all.
Accommodation, commuting to the office
There are some good PGs and flats that are easily and economically available in Lajpat Nagar.
Anything else, what you did to chill out, lessons learnt etc
The biggest take away from this internship is the impact of guidance. Manish sir, in the role of my mentor, motivated me beyond measures. It was less of an internship and more of an experience. I was treated as an associate when it came to assigning importance to the work that I submitted. I was entrusted with responsibilities and was guided throughout this journey. In one word, it was incredible! Those of you who wish to have practical experience of the field before actually entering it, JLJ is a great option.

I am an army girl! In a barbie world! Keeper of 5 dogs. On a diet for now. Sometimes I might make punctuation mistakes, but I make up for it by bringing in a crore or two extra. What's more important, a misplaced comma, or a well-placed crore?
