First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression
On the first day, I reached the office which is situated in ADR building in Court Complex. We need to write down our details before entering the office. The office area is well furnished and very clean. It gives us a cool feel. I was oriented by Mr. Genav on my first day. He gave me brief information about the District Legal Service Authority.
He gave me the following books to read about:
- Permanent Lok Adalat
- RTI, Prisoners Rights
- Prohibition of Child Marriage act 2006
- Domestic Violence Act
- And many other books having practical guidelines.
I went through the acts and got a further understanding as to what are the actual functions of the DLSA.
The ideology behind the internship schedule is to give a student how the legal aid is provided, how the alternate dispute resolution reduces the workload of regular courts, and to show how the Legal Services Authority work in District where the DLSA provides it services the main areas are district jail, child welfare committee, juvenile justice board, protection office, mediation and conciliation centres, Bal Seva Ashram etc. We were supposed to visit certain places and on the last day, we had to submit a report on the basis of our experiences.
The staffs were very helpful and friendly. After the completion of our works, we were allowed to move back home. I will advise students to intern here to know about legal aid services and functioning from the grass-root level.
There are no such bad things about the organization.
Things to learn
I used to get a new experience every day. So, the work was never boring since I had many field visits and also I could learn a lot about Lok-Adalat, Mediation Proceedings, and Pre-litigation Proceedings.
Interaction with parties during the mediation and visiting on various sites such as Children Home, Observation Home, Special Home. It gives us practical exposure to the legal field.
