On the 1st day, I was just asked to sit in the courtroom and observe the activities going around such as arguments made by the advocates and the orders given by the Judge.
I also learned how to make the cause list, in which I had to mention all the Regular cases, civil matters, Supplementary cases of the day so as to produce a glimpse of the daily schedule to my recruiter.
WORK ASSIGNED DURING THE TENURE
My internship for Semester II started in the month of April and I visited the courtroom for the 1st time on 29.04.2019.
Dictations to write a letter, note were given to me and I was asked to type them and submit it to the recruiter.
From the 2nd day, I was given case files to study and scrutinize them and to give a summary of the case to the recruiter. As my recruiter was specialised in criminal law I was made through with many important sections of Indian Penal Code 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, Indian Evidence Act 1872 and many allied acts. This activity not only allowed me to know the law rather it helped me how to interpret it and how to apply in it real instances.
For the 1st week, all I was assigned to do was to read the files and give a short summary and then questions were asked from me and I was asked to absorb information while sitting in the courtroom and to prepare notes of the arguments and orders given by advocates and judges respectively.
The 2nd week was important as I was assigned to an International Arbitration Case.
The 3rd week was dedicated to the Mediation sessions. My recruiter took me to the mediation cell of Delhi High Court and briefed me about the purpose and the working of the mediation cell. The Agenda of the mediation session is to do a settlement between two parties in Matrimonial affairs.
