Subsequently, mails were sent to candidates selected within a week.

Main Tasks

While I was selected as an intern the organization was framing a draft policy for the State of UP. It was titled, Legalisation of Online Delivery of Alcoholic Beverages In State of Uttar Pradesh’. I was associated with the project as a researcher.

The project focussed on various aspects ranging from licensing of online delivery to suggesting various models for its implementation, besides taking into consideration various aspects related to it like, capping its consumption per user, measures to monitor minors from consuming it, so on & so forth.

The draft policy research was divided into various teams for various tasks viz. teams for collecting statistical data, the team studying various such models already in existence and loopholes in them, teams looking for various legal aspects like sales, payment interface inter alia.

Good Things

The emphasis on team building and exchange of ideas- The Internship was quite different from the regular legal or policy internships a law student will undertake. The work environment was friendly. The flexible working hours with deadline-based tasks made things easier.

The emphasis on feedback and constructive criticism and constant unlearning and re-learning is something that makes one gain fresh perspectives.

Besides, the people at Adhyayan are easily approachable, They take personal interest in listening to your viewpoints, ideas, clearing out all your confusion and you always have them backing you even if you make blunders while working with them.

Bad Things

No stipend

Lessons Learned

For a student planning to pursue a career in policy-making, it becomes important to have a holistic knowledge about the prevailing situations apart form just having academic knowledge. A good law & policy is a fine amalgamation of both of them. So, don’t be a nerd if you want to be a good student of policy
