Name, College, Year of Study of the Student Intern

Name of the Organisation and its Full Address

Gorkela Law Office (Under D.Y. Advocate General Supreme Court of India, Manoj Gorkela).

How did you Apply?

A mail to should be sent ideally 1-2 months prior to the day one would want to join Mr. Manoj Gorkela (Gorkela Law Office) for an internship. One should also follow up on it if a reply doesn’t come within 2-3 weeks.

Once an acceptance mail is sent to you, you should be quick to grab the opportunity by sending the confirmation mail.

Duration of Internship

I joined the office in the month of October but due to sudden examination of my odd-even semester I re-joined the office in the month of January. Hence, the month I did the internship is October 2020 and January 2021. (2 Months)

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

I was so excited that I’d left my place way too early and reached the chambers at 09:15 hrs sharp (reporting time was 09:30 hrs).

Since, the admin Head was there in the office, I was asked by a maid to sit and wait.

Office of Gorkela law office is near to HDFC Bank, Greater Kailash and one can easily come through the medium of the metro. Nearest metro station is Greater Kailash Metro Station, New Delhi.

Around 09:30 hrs, all the other interns started coming, some of them had their first day just like me and some had joined a week prior.

Later, I was asked to show Ms. Shilpi Shah (Administrative Staff) the confirmation mail and sent him my details for the records.

A Xerox machine, two PCs connected to the printer and the Access to SCC Online and Manupatra is also available and also high-speed Wi-Fi, when these things are put together, it makes research work more effective and less tiresome.

To sum up, it could be said that the infrastructure is top notch. It has a good tea-coffee-soup facility and a kitchen to bake food according to your choice.

The first formal introduction will take place during the morning hour itself and then a proper get together at the dining table. All the associates, interns, administrative staff members eat together and are graced by Mr. Manoj Gorkela’s Company.

During the Lunch hour, one can have an informal as well as formal talks with the Sir and the associates.

Now, that I’ve given you heads up, you shouldn’t go unprepared.

Main Tasks

Tasks included research on various fields of law that comprise Criminal, Civil or commercial, SC/ST, pro-bono any other.

As I joined the office during the time of pandemic so I couldn’t join the court physically but yes you can hear the proceeding through the virtual court. You can see Sir or any other associate arguing and make notes.

You can also be asked to go to a specific police station or Court to collect a copy of statements.

Apart from these, you will also be asked to assist an associate with research related work. After completing one month of interning, one will also be allotted with the drafting work that include drafting of bail application, petition, rejoinder and counter affidavit.

I was also part of Sir’s team which meant my work was to assist sir’s team on social media platforms and make sure his presence is felt.

Work Environment and People

The working environment is good and the associates and the staff extremely nice and friendly. Overall work environment spoke nothing short of quality professionalism. They all are nice and friendly people. Adequate resources were available for the interns Except for few all the associates were kind, motivating and of helping nature.

Best Things

The name and designation speak for itself.

Sir understands and appreciates the importance of law in student life, thus tries to inculcate the same by arranging various discussion of the different aspects of law.

Lunch everyday with Mr. Manoj Gorkela where he used to discuss daily political affairs, court issues, and other such things with everyone.

You will get matters related to various aspects of Law. In-depth research work will be there and after completion of one month you will be a lot with the task of drafting.

Bad Things

The only bad thing was the quality of Interns during the time I was there. I Believed that one gets to learn from their colleagues as much as they learn from seniors and mentors and it was in the department that this internship severely lacked.

As per the performance

Biggest Lessons

Professional Competence comes first.

Mr. Gorkela meets all the interns at the end of the tenure of the internship and he will talk to you as an adult.

Going in front of him without having any knowledge what you done in the internship makes you look really stupid.

No matter what your background is, what position your parents hold, what contacts you hold, you wouldn’t succeed unless you are ready to put all you’ve got to become professionally competent.

Any Other Thing

Though it is an opportunity one should not miss.

Overall Rating

I chose to stay at my own place in Noida.

Greater Kailash Metro Station, on Magenta Line is the nearest metro station to Gorkela Law office.

Office Timings

9:30 am to 6:00 pm. (Depends where you are staying at the time of internship)

Timings are rarely relaxed. If one has to leave before the stipulated time, an application has to be given to the admin head.
