Declyn Gomes, Christ (Deemed to be University), 2nd Year.

Name of Advocate

Mr. Jayanta Narayan

Duration of Internship

15th December to 29th of December

How Did you Apply?

I was referred to him by another counsel.

First Day Formalities and First Impression

I met sir and his associates directly at the High Court of Calcutta. I was introduced to everyone and was told which court rooms they had matters in for that day. Mr. Jayanta is extremely educated and his extent of knowledge is absolutely unbelievable. He has been a practicing advocate for many years.

Main Tasks

I had to visit court everyday and attend all the court rooms in which either he or his associates had matters. Then in the evening I would go to Sir’s chambers and do research work and case briefing for matters that were upcoming. I also sat in few client meetings and listened to what was going on.

Good Things

Sir is extremely approachable and he taught me when I did not know things. He very patiently explained to me what and how I should proceed with the work I was given. He also taught me a lot of the Criminal Procedure Code and the Indian Evidence Act.

Everybody in the chamber is very close to each other. It resonates a home like environment.
