First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The office had a white theme interior with wooden polish flooring and white leather couches. I was asked to wait for about an hour on my first day. Thankfully, the office had some good magazines in the reception and I indulged myself.
Then the internship coordinator whom I had been mailing came down and introduced me to everyone including my mentor. I was told that no personal laptops were allowed and was given an office workstation.
Almost all the work is of corporate nature. There are many German clients of the firm.
First I was given research work, on varied topics like case laws regarding consumer protection act, Industrial dispute act , tenant rights against eviction under Transfer of property act, etc..
I was asked to join all the meetings held every morning at 9/9.30 and even attended a client meeting.
Then I was given more serious work like drafting a letter to a body regarding money due a client and assisted in drafting a JV agreement between a German & an Indian Company.
Work environment and people
The people are very friendly. You can always approach them for help. There is a staff for the kitchen who would bring food for you from any nearby place and would even make maggie for you if you ask them to. All the associates sit together for lunch. We even discussed about game of thrones and prison break.
The awesome filter coffee they serve in the morning. The office is about 2 floors high and full of conference rooms, libraries and even kitchens. I kept getting lost in there. we had doughnuts and sweets for celebrations.
Most of the associates are young so its fun to work with them.
I wasn’t given much work the first few days.It was pretty boring, but i had net access and was also asked to read through certain documents to get an idea of drafting. But when i started getting work, there was’nt much free time.
It was my first law firm internship so i got to learn about the work culture, how to handle work load and survive 9:00-5:00. The managing partner Anupama mam has a very graceful and strong personality, which reminded me of Jessica Pearson from Suits. :P.
You will always get to learn more from a mid-sized law firm than any top notch firm because here you can easily approach the associates for doubts or any help. This internship was very fruitful for me since I want to make my career as a corporate lawyer.
I stayed at a PG in Kormangala 6th block. The pg was good with wifi and elevator but the food was okay. The location is very happening all the cafes, pubs, food joints and malls are at walking distance. There are lots of PGs in kormangla you can take help of a broker or can look out for posters and advertisements of PGs.
The office timings were from 9:00 – 5:00 and is open 5 days a week. They may call you on alternate Saturdays (9:00-12:30). Anupama mam the managing partner is very strict about the the timings but one good thing is that they leave you by 5:00 and won’t make you stay back unless you are working on some important case.
