Weekend (Optional): 2:00 am – 6:00 pm

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I stayed at my relatives’ in east Anna Nagar, Chennai from where I commuted by share auto or bus every day.

But faced difficulty during transportation as:

1. Neither did I know about Chennai nor do I know Tamil.

2. Due to Metro construction several road ways were being blocked & buses on that route were cancelled.

Main Tasks:

The interns at CRY Chennai are in no way treated different from any other employee of cry.

We are given all kinds of tasks from designing, to planning and organising an event. Moreover, works are given by Ma’am to each intern knowing his/her potential and capability & to his/her interest.

Interns are always guided by their mentor/s.

Generally they are asked to work for a programme or press conference or to make a case-study about child rights issues and suggestions to improve them or might be given an awareness programme to work upon and several other research works.

Interns are supposed to maintain a record of what work was done during each day which is to be submitted to their mentor at the end of the day.

Work Environment, People

The work environment is energetic, positive and encouraging.

The entire staff at CRY Chennai is very helpful and warm.

The group of Raiyan Sir, Harry Sir & Dammodaran Sir is very encouraging , positive and wonderful to talk to and a joyful experience.

Moreover, during break sitting with this group will refresh you, they would discuss everything under the sun – college life, various spheres of improving child rights & even movies!

Even my co-interns were all very positive & warm people with whom I am going to be friends for a long time.

Best Thing

Firstly, getting an opportunity to work hand in hand with the best of their field.

Secondly, the community meeting at weekends at various downtrodden slums where they not only remove child labour, but also teach children and play with them which was a joyful experience.

Thirdly, the office environment which enlighten us & make interning with cry a joyful experience.

Things To Improve

Timing at CRY Chennai may be a problem for some.

Long distance journey could also be the problem for some.

So please specify it to your mentor they are co-operative and will help you always.

Stipend/ Month

Though there is no stipend given.

But your transportation cost in case of field work except your coming and going back from office will be refunded.

Biggest Lesson

This blog has been the hardest to write for me by far.

In part, the challenge stems from trying to sum up months worth of experiences is just a few paragraphs.

Even more challenging, this post marks the end of my internship here with Experience Inc.

What I’ve Learned

I’m not alone: Coming into this position, I felt that I had no idea where my career was going and I lacked confidence about what I could do and what I am really good at.

My internship at CRY Chennai has definitely given me a better understanding of my skill set and where my career may take me, but most importantly, I’ve come to learn that I am not alone.

This job has taught me that almost everybody is in the same position as I am.

Very few college students know what they want to do, and it is something that is simply not worth worrying about.

I know that if I continue to work hard things will fall into place.

To keep writing: This was huge for me. I have always enjoyed writing and always felt that I was pretty good at it.

Yet, what this position taught me is that I really didn’t have the writing skills I thought I had.

Writing takes practice and I simply was not practicing enough.

Writing for the web and writing your average research paper could not be more different.

I had to learn to adapt a new tone with my writing, something that took a little getting used to.

This position kept me writing something new every day, and I can say that my writing has improved drastically.
