Internship Experience @ Child Rights and You [CRY], Bangalore: Part of Put Children First Campaign

The office is located at Cox Town with a team strength of almost 40-50 people.

Application Process

To apply at CRY, a cover letter along with CV need to be sent at [email protected]

After that, you would get a response form Mr. Navneet Prakash who deals with internship applications at Bangalore office of CRY.

You need to then answer an internship application form which would be provided in the email.

After sending all the requisites, a telephonic interview will take place at your suitable time and date.

Duration of internship and timings

The duration of the internship was 4 weeks.

The inters are required to strictly be at office for 7 hours.

I would reach the office at 9:30 and would leave at 4:30.

Anyone, who is not a morning person can join at 10 or 10:30 but can only leave once the 7 hour shift is over.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

I was supposed to reach the office by 10 but I could manage to reach the office at 11:30 which was embarrassing and awkward.

The office is not very big nor very small. It has two floors with a workforce of 40-50 employees and maybe more.

I was introduced to Navneet Sir by a friendly receptionist, Jaya mam.

On the first day, I was introduced to the office, my work-space, a fellow intern, and on the areas in which CRY works.

Main tasks

CRY was running a campaign called ‘Put Children First’ in which we wanted to make aware the youth about the child related problems and their rights and how they should vote for Child Right in the 2014 elections.

For this we were supposed to go to various colleges and organize meetings with the College head.

My main task was to call the colleges and fix a meeting and when it could be possible to drop the posters and brochures for the same. The entire month, I did that.

Work environment and people

In the beginning, my conversation was only limited to Navneet sir and a fellow intern. And I would not interact much with anyone else as I didn’t knew them.

My workstation was the IT room, so again my conversation was limited to the IT professionals there.

The work environment is very good.

Everyone is helpful and chirpy.

Best things

I would count the promptness of Navneeet Sir if I have a doubt or a query as a good thing.

This was my first internship and I applied to many NGO’s, but sir’s reply to the internship mail was very prompt and I had did not have to wait for 1-2 weeks as I would hear my other friends had to wait for their internship response.

By the end of the internship, I knew the staff quite well.

We were 4 interns and 3 of us were law students, so that was nice. Navneet sir is the best superior anyone could get.

He is amazingly calm, polite and good to talk to.

Even when I made mistakes, he would calmly tell me ‘Sanjana, you are not supposed to do like this.’

Although my task was boring but all these small things made a difference and I could not count my internship as boring.

Moreover, after this internship I can give response to an email or a phone call ‘professionally’, because believe me I dealt with many phone calls and emails.

Bad things

There was nothing bad in the internship.



Biggest Lessons

My biggest lesson would be that I learnt quite a lot working under pressure. In exceptional circumstances, if the work assigned to you is not finish, you need to stay back and complete it.

Besides that, I learnt to prioritize which work was more important because end of the day, I am responsible for what I did.
