Duration of internship and timings

2nd May, 2016 – 16th June, 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

He told me to come to SC in Formals, in the morning, 2nd May, I reached quite early as I was anxious and excited and did not want to get late. When he came I met him, we got an Intern’s Pass issued for me so that I could attend the Proceedings. We both had breakfast in the canteen of SC. at 10 or 10:30 the proceedings start, he took me to different Courtrooms, told me about different judges, he explained in detail, how SC works, etc. I was told to be free to ask any question, any doubt.

Main tasks

I attended the Proceedings at Supreme Court, High Court of Delhi and CAT Delhi. it was one of the best experience of my life, I first time watched big Lawyers arguing in the court. In the SC I heard Mr. Harish Salve, Mr. Gopal Subramanium, Mr. Kapil Sibal, the great Mr. Ram Jethmalani etc. in the High Court I heard Mr. Salman Khurshid, Ms. Pinky Anand etc. in CAT also the experience was good.

In the Supreme Court I also attended the big case of Medical Coucil of India (NEET).

Sir used to give me some research work also, but, as it was my first internship and i was in the very first year he did not burden me with the work, he suggested some good books to read, such as learning the law by Glanville Williams.

He had his cases in HC and CAT, I attended those cases as well and could know how to approach a case in the hand.

Work environment and people

Work environment was as good as it could be, Sir was very friendly and helpful, he explained me technicalities of law, we sometimes used to discuss contemporary issues, in short work environment was perfect to learn, not just from the books, but from practical life, and discussions as well.

Best things

I learn how to argue a case in court, how to approach a case if you have to argue it, etc. every thing was best.

Bad things

Nothing bad regarding the internship, but if you are interning in Delhi, in the month of May and June the whether can be a problem it’s very hot there, and everybody knows about the traffic of Delhi, one has to keep the margin of time if wants to reach at time.

Biggest Lessons

Biggest lesson I learnt was the professional ethics, his personalty reminds me of the quote of J.K. Rowling “If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” I guess that is the best thing I could learn.

Overall Rating

I stayed at my house and used to ravel by Delhi metro, Pragati Medan is the nearest metro station to Supreme Court, if we were to go to High Court or CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal), then he, himself used to take me, from Supreme Court to High Court or CAT, in his car.

Office Timings

From 10 am to 5 pm but timings were not that strict.
