First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Personally, my first impression was good as the partner, Advocate Uttam Hathi, under whom I interned was very welcoming and settled all queries that one could have on joining a new law firm.
Moreover, on the first day I was asked to read and understand the Shipping Laws – Glossary which later helped me to draft legal documents and relate to the cases.
Their office is very spacious and as is located in the heart of the busting streets of law firms, everything is available that a budding lawyer would need, from the feel of how international commercial laws work in practicality to procedures of litigation.
During the internship period, I was expected to keep a track on the status of each case, draft petitions – applications and proof read legal documents, attend conferences and court matters with the partner.
He has a lot of cases on hand eg. PIL matters, Company & Commercial matters as well as Shipping law cases which gave me hands-on experience related to Indian Legal system.
Work environment and people
The ambiance in the office was that of comfort and conducive for intellectual growth along with a touch of professionalism.Sir and other interns created a very friendly environment which helped me to grow with them on the legal and social front.
Advocate Uttam Hathi is a very knowledgeable and a highly revered person in the legal fraternity hence, hence it was a great opportunity backed by wholesome experience in the two months that I interned.
He is very approachable and always ready to help with possible ways to tackle issues.
Brus Chambers threw open a different door to a new perspective of legal system which I formerly wasn’t aware of and biggest lessons can be summed up by the knowledge I have taken from the internship.
Any Other Thing
Brus Chambers is an apt choice for those intending to have a future in Commercial and Admiralty Laws. One can expect to get cases of other types too which will give an overall training.
Brus Chambers is located in Fort which is barely 20 minute walk from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus hence its apt for Mumbaikars, which avoids the need to find a PG.
An intern is expected to adhere to the timings of the firm, mine was 10-6.30/7 depending on the work load for the day.In cases of heavy rain, train related issues or personal matters; he is flexible about timings on prior intimation.
