First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Personally, my first impression was good as the partner, Advocate Uttam Hathi, under whom I interned was very welcoming and settled all queries that one could have on joining a new law firm.
Moreover, on the first day I was asked to read and understand the Shipping Laws – Glossary which later helped me to draft legal documents and relate to the cases.
Their office is very spacious and as is located in the heart of the busting streets of law firms, everything is available that a budding lawyer would need, from the feel of how international commercial laws work in practicality to procedures of litigation.
Main tasks
During the internship period, I was expected to keep a track on the status of each case, draft petitions – applications and proof read legal documents, attend conferences and court matters with the partner.
He has a lot of cases on hand eg. PIL matters, Company & Commercial matters as well as Shipping law cases which gave me hands-on experience related to Indian Legal system.
