Duration of internship and timings

1st June to 22nd June, 2016 (3 weeks).

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

It was my 1st Internship so I was very much exited to work with them.

After basic formalities and introductions about the authority, different legal topics for project write up were assigned among us which were very much necessary to be submitted at the last of the internship.

The building was spacious and distributed Into sections for proper working.

Main tasks

The main work assigned to the interns were to attend the lectures by different eminent personalities on various relevant legal topics.

The lectures were in impressive way by Judges, state heads of different NGOs, Legal Professionals as well as experts of legal field. Moreover we were send for jail visit, lok adalat visit, child home visit, court visits and legal awareness program.

Also individual right up(article) topics were given at the first day for mandatory submission.

Moreover interns were given different schemes of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to work on and present.

We also went to a nearby village for legal awareness of women and child rights.

Work environment and people

The work environment was friendly. Judges as well as the staff were very cooperative and easy to find even after internship hours if you need any help from them.

Different legal experts of different fields were called to provide practical and detailed concepts of legal topics.

Best things

The working environment was awesome and Judges and staff wanted to give us the maximum exposure as I worked on NALSA’s scheme and also participated in legal awareness skit.

The best thing you can find while interning at BSLSA is different experts under one roof for practical exposures.

The authority always took us for any visits via their own vehicles. Got to know much about LGBT rights, plea bargaining, child rights, prisoner’s rights, mediations, like adalats etc.

Bad things

Actually the bad things were not such bad. It was sometimes malfunctioning of AC or power cuts.

The second thing was that in the first week we just had bare lectures which somehow made a classroom type impression.

No stipend

Biggest Lessons

There is a famous saying that “the day you will stop learning, you will stop winning”. This in the real sense I got to know while interning at the Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA).

The biggest lesson I got there was “slow and steady just wins the race but fast and accurate always defeats slow and steady”.

Got to know the real perspective of law which could be applied practically for the society.

The real problems which rural India is facing and could be solved via law, the problems of the under-trial prisoners, human trafficking and child rights.

The conditions inside a courtroom can be solved by “fast and accurate not just slow and steady”.

Any Other Thing

It was very nice to work with people who were involved in putting extra effort to make us clear the theoretical and basics of law.

It was a nice place to get interned in your 1st or 2nd yr. I wish the authority could work to add some more practical exposures.

Authorities didn’t provide any accommodations but as it is located Centrally in Patna. It was easy to find rooms nearby.

I took one such room for a month.

Office Timings

The timings were relaxed as the interns were divided into two groups with timings of group A: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm and group B: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
