Duration of internship and timings
1st to 31st July, 2016
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I came in early and met the caretaker. He asked me to wait in the conference room. I studied the office infrastructure which was quite good. In a hour’s time, my supervisor came. He gave his introduction and asked for mine. We had a little chat and he showed me my separate cubicle and briefed me with the day’s work to start with.
I got a book on Company Law and he asked me to refer to the book along with the website of corporate affairs to make a complete handy note the the status and various aspects of The Companies Law Amendment Act @013.
Main task was to reach court early from our senior and there juniors hand over their case files which are dated on that day.
To study the files and made our own opinions or suggestions noted in our diary which later we have to show to our senior.
Visited several courts to watch the hearings.
Also translated documents like FIR’s, court visits, briefing the recruiter and clients, case studies and drafting
Work environment and people
The associates were really helpful over there. They took time to explain the concepts in a lucid manner. Working environment was really positive. Interns never hesitated a bit before approaching any of the associates for any doubts or queries
The best thing about interning here is that almost every day you get to meet different clients and plaints and different lawyers. You get to observe all of them in action.
Most of the associates here themselves had lots of experience and had come from family of Judges and Lawyers. It was an experience in itself when we were able to converse with the associates.
Internship at the Associated Law Firms is a learning experience, especially for 2nd and 3rd year students of a 5 year course.
Amount of work given to interns is really less and mostly includes research and case analysis. So, if you a kind of intern who wants work-work-work during internship, then you might get bored and think of skipping the office
No stipend was offered.
Being an intern who wants to learn how to work during internships, you must constantly keep asking from work from all the people in the office. There should not be reluctance in going and speaking to associates in office.
Internships are the best places to make contacts and these contacts help a lot for future opportunities. An intern should always try to work directly or indirectly with Senior Partners, for they always notice you.
Any Other Thing
Being a student who has only entered the second year and got time to do only one internship, my general perspective about internship has changed. It does not mean only mean sitting like a robot and doing the task given to you in requisite time. It also means observing, interacting, learning and developing yourself (even in cunning strategies) learnt from the associates in dealing with clients. One should not only work hard but also know how to work smart.
I am glad that my first internship taught me a lot about the Legal Environment and it as motivated me to go for other and bigger internships in the future as well as I further go on in my years at the Law School.
