Mayank Gupta, G.H. Raisoni Law School, Nagpur, 2nd year (BA LLB 5 years)
January 7, 2016 to February 6, 2016
The firm, Hariani & Co., Advocates & Solicitors has its office at B-4, Aashiana Park, North Main Road, Koregaon Park, Pune. The formal application process is sending in the Curriculum Vitae and filling in the application form provided on the official website.
Accordingly, I was called for an interview at their office on 7th January, 2016. I was accompanied by my friend who had also applied for the same and we were asked to join the same day.
The timings were from 9 am to 6 pm and Sundays and second Saturdays were off.
As I am from Nagpur, I stayed with my brother at Pune and used the city bus for daily commute. There were other interns who were studying in Pune itself and so attended the office from 2 pm to 8 pm.
After being interviewed on the first day, I was introduced to all the Advocates in the firm. There were two senior Advocates and ten other Advocates working under them.
The firm mainly undertakes matters relating to litigation, dispute resolution, arbitration, family law, estate management. real estate, corporate and commercial law.
I was exposed to real estate and litigation.
The office is well equipped with computers and books which are well organised.
The main tasks undertaken by me included research work on case laws for providing citations for various matters, drafting documents and assisting advocates in the court, as and when required.
At times I also interacted with the clients.
All the associates in the office are very friendly and are always willing to satisfy the queries of the interns.
Also, they give complete background of the work being delegated by them and a detailed instructions on how it is to be done. This proves to be very helpful and is a great learning experience.
As the office is located at Koregaon Park, finding a good and pocket-friendly place for having lunch was never an issue. The lunch time was from 1 to 2.
There are tea and coffee machines in the office which come to your rescue when you are exhausted or working late. As I was from another city, the associates had great concern for it and at times when I had to stay back late, they dropped me home.
The work environment is completely professional.
The daily interactions with the advocates prove to be very informative and are accompanied by light and fun-filled interactions at regular intervals.
The associates would sit me down and teach me all the things associated with the matter I was given to work on with utmost patience.
All in all, my one month long internship at Hariani and Co. proved to be a great learning experience for me.
The advocates offered me invaluable advice relating to career making in law and acknowledged me to contact them whenever I required any help.
Being my very first internship, it was a great experience and exceeded my expectations. It inculcated a zest for learning in me.
This entry has been submitted for the LexisNexis-Lawctopus Internship Experience Writing Competition 2015-2016. iPleaders is the learning partner for this competition.
