GNLU’s Academy on Advanced Issues of International Law for Developing Countries (March 10-15); Register by Feb 25

Developing countries are facing enormous challenges in the globalized world. An enhanced knowledge of international law, theory and practice, is essential for their Foreign Service officers for more effective participation in international relations.

To achieve this purpose, the GNLU Academy will seek to contribute to acquire understanding so that international law can truly become a most important tool for these nations to further promote peace, sustainable development through increased international cooperation, especially by providing various training tools to foreign service officers who need to have full grasp on development and use of international law in their interactions with their counterparts from developed countries as well as representatives of international organisations.

The Academy seeks to address practitioners, preferably with education in law and political science/international relations including basic training in international law.

Sunday 10 March -Friday 15 March 2013, (6 hours daily) followed by daily group discussion, four lectures, each of 1.5 hours (with 15 minutes break)


Lectures (including video lectures), workshop, seminar and documentary. Each candidate will be required to undertake 250 pages additional self-study in advance prior to commencement of the course.

Written Exam of short-essay and multiple choice questions.

Reference material: Each candidate will be provided with reading material consisting of research papers, articles, reports and case-law abstracts.


(a) Be on probationary or active duty as an officer of Foreign Ministry of developing country as recognized by the OECD

(b) Officer surviving in relevant fields

(c) Academicians/Researchers/Scholars in relevant area

(d) Preferably under the age of 40 years

Faculty: Faculty will consist of well-experienced senior Foreign Service officers/diplomats/Members of International Law Commission, Sri Lanka, University of New South Wales (Sydney), Galilee International Management Institute (Israel), International law scholars, judges and arbitrators, policy-makers drawn from respective regions.

Facilities: A state-of-art modern world class fully IT equipped (wi-fi) 50 acres university campus with residential facilities, sports complex, excellent library and online research services, conference halls, 15 minutes away from Ahmedabad international airport (1 hour air flight from Delhi or Mumbai); recreational facilities in the surrounding region.

  • Participants from Developing Nations: USD 150
  • Indian Participants: INR 8500

*Fee includes registration, lodging, tuition fee, study material, cultural visit, exams, meals and refreshments for six days
