First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

I reached the Tolstoy House 15 minutes before the reporting time i.e. 9:00 AM. I was directed by the guard about the office being at 2 floor. As I reached the office, I was asked to sit in the Library- the place where all Interns sit and work. Moments after, I was greeted by the Librarian, Mr. Bibhuti and he handed over me the Internship form to fill giving out my details.

Once I submitted the form back, I was asked to wait for the call of the Partner under whom I was assigned. I received information about my partner being on leave, so I spent my afternoon talking with other co-interns.

I was lucky enough as one associate as he entered library around 3:00 PM and found me sitting free, he gave me research work. From the next day, the senior associates made sure I get work regularly.

The office is impressive and spread across three floors, library (Intern’s Place) being on the Second Floor.

Main tasks at Dua Associates

Since, I just completed my First year at my Law School, I was not expecting much work. But, it was other way round. The associates gives you work to make you understand the issues and topics.

I was to intern under Corporate Team of Dua where I worked for 3 weeks and in the last week I worked under the Litigation Team.

I was given research work mainly in Indian Stamp Act, Competition Act, Company Law, 2013, Indian Succession Act, Law of Wills, Indian Contract Act, F.E.M.A Act, 2014.  The all statues were new to me and I found it extremely interesting to work on them.

Also, prepared Timeline and briefs on the SC matters.

Work environment and people

The Associates at Dua makes you feel comfortable and do not burden you with work until the work needs urgent attention. You can call your associates through the phone kept in the Library and clarify and ask for work.

You can also walk in to their workplace and get updates. If your associate is not having any work, you can contact any other associate without any hesitation.

The Administration staff is also very cooperative especially Mr. Bibhuti. He patiently hears your problems and assist you in getting relevant materials.

The Guard makes your day by wishing you Good Morning with a smile every morning.

Biggest Lessons

Dua Associates Delhi made me shun off the pre-conceived notion that not much work is given to first year chaps. The associates under which I worked made sure I get quality assignments to research on. Also they guided me on every step and made me understand even the basic without loosing their cool.

The research skills have been honed because of the inputs given by them on every work I did for them. The whole Internship has been one enlightening experience which gave me insight into the firm business and the legal world.

Any Other Thing

The office is 10 minutes walk from the Rajiv Chowk’s station (Block F, Gate no. 5/6) or from Janpath Station. You can take Auto even, it will charge 30 Rs.

Food Joints- McD, KFC, Sarvana Bhawan, Dunkins is all around the corner.
