A 3 day exposure trip to the district of Khamman and Warangal in Andhra Pradesh, which hosts nearly 400-500 families who have been forcefully uprooted from their homes in Chhattisgarh, due to the ongoing conflict.
This is an attempt to expose young students/ lawyers/researchers/academicians etc to the plight of the conflict induced internally displaced persons ( IDP).
The UN Guiding Principles on IDPs has defined IDPs as “ internally displaced persons are persons or groups of persons who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters, and who have not crossed an internationally recognized State border.”
This trip will bring you face to face with people who fall into the frame of this definition, who have been deprived of their citizenship right.
The trip will start from Hyderabad on 22 November 2013 and end on 25 November 2013.
This trip will give you opportunity to dialogue not just with the victims but also with Human Rights defenders who have been fighting endlessly for the rights of IDPs.
The trip will allow you to examine the state and the central laws that are so inadequate to protect the rights of this vulnerable group, which has been conveniently been invisibilized.
We as part of the Darmiyaan group which is a group of people who were part of Yatra held in June, 2013 wish to include more law students who are interested in this field and work on lines of various socio legal problems.
Our previous experience has motivated all of us to take up more socio-legal issues through such exposure trips and groom more law students and opening lines for their career.
♦ To understand the issues of displacement through the conflict lens.
♦ To interact with stakeholders working with these issues.
♦ Make representations to appropriate authority.
To begin a nationwide dialogue on conflict induced IDPs.
Who can participate?
♦ We are looking at maximum 15 people to be part of the exposure.
