DAKSH, a civil society organization, is organizing its 10th Annual Constitution Day Lecture 2021 on ‘Norms and Conventions make Constitution Work’, on November 26, 2021.

About DAKSH

DAKSH is a civil society organisation that undertakes research and activities to promote accountability and better governance in India. It was founded in 2008 by people from diverse backgrounds, including academicians, entrepreneurs, lawyers, teachers, social and political activists, and ordinary citizens.

About the Lecture

The Constitution works not just on the basis of the written words in the text, laws and rules, but also through a number of norms and conventions developed over time. If the unspoken agreement to follow such norms are not followed, there is a risk to the smooth functioning of various institutions.

On the occasion of Constitution Day, DAKSH will take a closer look at norms that have started breaking down over the last couple of decades and constitutional challenges that arise as a result.

DAKSH’s Annual Constitution Day Lecture: This year the lecture is back as a physical event and¬†will be held on¬†Friday, November 26th¬†at¬†6:30 PM¬†at¬†Bangalore International Centre.

The talk will address the importance of norms and conventions for functioning of public institutions and how divergence from these practices can lead to constitutional challenges.
