Child Rights and You (CRY), Bangalore
Application Process
I applied for the internship by dropping them a mail and there was a prompt response from their side.
The link for the form is HERE.
In the first stage, I was asked by them, to send my CV and a few forms to be filled up. Once, done with the first stage, they fixed a telephonic interview after a week or so where I was asked a few questions regarding my interests and capabilities.
Duration of internship and timings
13th November, 2015 – 13th December, 2015
10 AM- 5 PM, Weekdays. Some Weekends maybe working as well.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Every intern is introduced to the head of the Volunteer programme and the head of the Policy department.
They are briefed about the current projects CRY is running and are allotted areas as per their choice. I was not allotted any work on the first day but was just given a background information and my job during the entire internship period.
Since I was the only intern then, at that point of time, I felt a bit lonely though I was later joined by other interns.
Accommodation: How? Where? Reviews?
I stayed in my cousin’s home but there are many places, mostly hostels and PG, were you can find cheap accommodation.
Main Tasks
Field visits to learn about the various nuances of the functioning of Right to Education. No CRY employee accompanies you on that, do it yourself.
Researched on the Sexual offence bill, 2013, in a comparative manner and suggest changes as and where required.
I also had to get details and contact numbers of various schools, colleges, malls, etc. for the child rights advocacy campaign.
Work Environment, People
The work environment is energetic, positive and encouraging. Everyone at the office is friendly and amazing to work with.
The people here are very helpful and you can strike a conversation with anyone very easily.
Best Things
The best thing would be the relaxed office environment and the different kind of legal as well as non-legal work.
The experience gained while working hard to create databases as a part of my task, that delicious tea in the evening which could really raise your spirits and get rid of your headache.
Things that could’ve been better
Since I was a law student, I think more legal work could have been assigned to us.
Stipend
No
Biggest Lessons
My biggest lesson would be that I learnt quite a lot working under pressure. In exceptional circumstances, if the work assigned to you is not finish, you need to stay back and complete it.
Besides that, I learnt to prioritize which work was more important because end of the day, I am responsible for what I did.
