I have not studied XYZ Law. The firm I am scheduled to intern practices XYZ Law. Should I go ahead?

Yes.

For most students, after the 1st year of law school ends, you are trained enough to learn the law on your own.

You know how to go about reading the Bare Acts.

You know how to go about reading case laws.

You have some training in legal research and legal writing.

And hence, you are good to go.

You can learn the law on the go (i.e during the internship). Just ensure that you are familiar with the basics of that ‘XYZ’ law.

For example, if it’s an IPR law firm and you haven’t studied IP till now, you’ll do well to go through some of the main provisions of the related Bare Acts and follow good blogs like SpicyIP.
