The Ministry of Home Affairs seeks suggestions and comments for the proposed amendments to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 (RBD Act).

About the MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs, or simply the Home Ministry, is a ministry of the Government of India. As an interior ministry of India, it is mainly responsible for the maintenance of internal security and domestic policy.

The Home Ministry is headed by the Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah.

Call for Suggestions/Comments

Background

Registration of Births and Deaths in India is mandatory with the enactment of Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD), Act 1969 and is done as per the place of occurrence of the event. With a view to simplify the provisions of various sections of the existing RBD Act, 1969 and to make it people-friendly, the Government of India has proposed to amend the RBD Act, 1969.

Invitation

Existing sections of the Act and amendments proposed by the Office of the Registrar General, India (ORGI) are indicated in the first two columns of the proposal respectively. The Ministry of Home Affairs seeks feedback and suggestions along with the justification for the proposed amendments.

How to Submit?

  • A copy of the proposed amendments to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, is displayed for reference.
  • Existing sections of the Act and amendments proposed by the Office of the Registrar General, India (ORGI) are indicated in the first two columns of the proposal respectively.
  • Your suggestions/comments, on the proposed amendments or otherwise, maybe provided in the third column along with justification in the last column to the office within 30 days from the date of its publication (November 27, 2021) on the website i.e on the MHA’s official website.
  • A soft copy of the proposal can be downloaded in pdf format and your suggestions/comments, in the required format, be sent through email to drg-crs.rgi@nic.in within the stipulated time.
  • Suggestions/comments received after the prescribed time will not be considered.

Submission Deadline

The last date of submission is November 27, 2021.
