Call for Papers: NUALS’ Seminar on Law and Environment (March 11-12); Submit by Feb 24

A national seminar on “Envisioning a Legal Framework for Mainstreaming Environmental Conservation” is being organized by Centre for Environment and Law at NUALS Kochi on 11th and 12th of March, 2013. We invite research papers on the topics given below.

Session I

Forests and wildlife – Moving from an anthropocentric approach to eco centric approach

a. Ecologically sensitive areas and Protected Areas

a. Human – Wildlife conflict

b. River Ecosystems

Session II

Community Rights- Moving from management of resources to control of resources

a. Access and Benefit sharing Regime

b. Participatory model in governance

c. Tribal rights

Session III

Agriculture and Industry- Moving from Impact Assessment to Enviro Legal Due Diligence

a. Renewable Energy

b. Land Use Planning and Exploitation of resources

c. Organic farming and Hazardous chemicals

The abstracts shall be e-mailed to on or before 24th February 2013. The abstracts should be less than 300 words.

The final papers should be mailed to on or before 7th March 2013. Two selected papers for each session will be presented by students in front of the panel of experts.

All students who will be sending papers will be allowed to do poster presentations at the venue. We are looking for creative and innovative research works confining to the given themes.

  • Papers are expected to be 3000-5000 words.
  • All submissions shall be in MS Word format typed in Times New Roman in 12 font size with line spacing of 1.5.
  • All citations shall adhere to the Harvard Blue book 18th edition.
  • Joint authorship up to a maximum of two is allowed.
  • There will be awards for the Best Research Papers.

Detailed schedule of paper presentation, speakers and list of selected papers for the presentation would be displayed on the official website of the University on 8th March 2013 and will also be communicated through email to the participants concerned.

Participation is open to all individuals irrespective of whether they are presenting a paper at seminar or not.

All individuals participating in the Seminar will be issued a ‘Participation Certificate’.

Parliamentary Debate

The student participants will be divided into Ruling and Opposition parties. The Speaker serves as both the judge and arbiter of the rules during the round. There will be two awards for the “Best Parliamentarians”.
