First published on 14th June, 2017.

15th – 17th September, 2017

The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE), Bangalore will host a national bilingual conference from the 15th to the 17th of September, 2017, titled Being Tibetan: Honouring the past, Influencing the Present, Inspiring the Future.

The conference will be the first in a series of scholarly engagements on Tibetan Identity Construction in the Diaspora.

By bringing together a range of experienced and emerging scholars, Tibetan and non-Tibetan, we hope to develop a research agenda and scholarly community that addresses meaningfully the challenges and opportunities Tibetans face.

Though there have been many opportunities for academic engagement on Tibet, there have been few opportunities to reflect exclusively on current Tibetan identity.

Being Tibetan: Honoring the past, Influencing the present, Inspiring the Future will provide a rigorous and inclusive environment where participants are invited to discover and learn, and in which everyone’s ideas are shared and appreciated.

If you have an idea to share, if you are a thinker and a doer, if you are an explorer, an innovator, a performer, we invite you to think about the many issues associated with what it means to be Tibetan and to contribute submissions that consider the following questions and topics that deal with the individual, social, political, economic, family, identity of Tibetans.

Confirmed Plenary speakers include, eminent Tibetologist, Author and Historian, Dr.Claude Arpi; Director of the Tibetan Policy Institute,Mr. Thubten Samphel; Mr.Tashi Tsering, Tibetologist and Director of the Amnye Machen Institute; Dr. Dorjee Rabten Neshar(MD), C.M.O, Bangalore Branch.
